@JerricaBenton: Yea. I was more upset that I didn't fire him first. I really love where we live but this one thing makes things so difficult.

@Mrs. Pen: I mush admit when I read you post on interviewing pedi's I was jealous! I guess atleast now we'll get to do that and find someone that really fits for our family. =) Yea, it'll be far away but I figure if either of the kids really needed to get in right away I could just take them here to the clinic. *shrugs shoulders*

@Arden: I totally feel your pain. Our area is known for kicking out doctors that don't follow common practice. Atleast Austin isn't too far.

That's terrible, I'm so sorry.
I'm afraid of this happening to us, since we're planning on co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, blw, alternative vaccination (delaying some, skipping most), and many other "non-traditional" parenting choices. It's so frustrating - times like this I really wish I lived in a more progressive area, like maybe Portland, Oregon!

@runsyellowlites: Strange! Maybe he was just adding it to the list of 'excuses.' Honestly, as weird as it would be to be 'fired' by a pedi, I'd rather that than have a doctor who knows he isn't able to give your family the best care/kind of care you want, ya know?

@JerricaBenton: There are alot of non-vaxing patients that go there. He was seriously 100% fine with it, never lectured us or anything of the sort.

His issue was the solids.

And yea, but our medical community freaking sucks here so I was trying to just deal with it. Thankfully my sister & dad live where we'll be traveling so we'll be able to visit when we go! =)

oh my gosh that's so awful!!! I'm so sorry you're going through this :( Finding a pedi who will support you in your parenting decisions is hard. I was lucky to find one that supported cosleeping, extended breastfeeding and even let us choose how we wanted to vax. I am so blessed. I wish everyone could have a pedi as great as hours.

And that's CRAZY you'll have to go 2 hours away for a doctor!!!

ETA: I had no idea that a pedi could fire a patient.

It sounds like you didn't mesh with your pedi anyway. It is annoying that the office wasn't clear about their policies on vaccinations from the start though. Ours clearly states that if you don't vax you aren't going to be the right fit. That stinks that you'll have to travel so far for a new office, but it'll be worth it to find someone you agree with and are more comfortable with.

Yep, that's right. A few days after P's 9 month appt we got a certified letter stating that after Feb 17 he would no longer be our pedi.

Some of you ladies may remember the post I made about him really pushing solids on us, which until just this last week we could NOT get P to eat/swallow at all.
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/starving-my-child
Apparently us choosing to not give P fluoride supplement and not vax her has made things "too difficult" for him and we're in the "like 1% that doesn't want these things" so he dropped us. (Until the fluoride he was 100% okay with us not vaxing and never stated it being a problem). What has really burned me is despite us telling him our concerns with her intolerances (they are charted) he never sent us to do any other testing or see anyone else about possible underlying issues of her low weight/head % and just threatened ftt when I told him that I just couldn't get her to swallow the food... mind you she has grown 1+lb a month since birth, is 2.5 times her birth weight at 9 months, and made a good jump from 6-9 months in her head circumference (he never ordered any scan either). If he was soooo concerned then why the heck didn't he do something? I would've been fine with that but until all other things are ruled out I just couldn't justify forcing P to go hungry so she would eat solids when she still had the tongue thrust reflex and I couldn't get her to swallow any food anyways! (No I never said anything about going to a specialist... seriously every visit was spent with me just trying to ask him about other things we could do to encourage her and even asked what foods might be best for calories/fat to "really make them count"... I just never thought of asking that).

I AM a tad relieved because her appts made me SO anxious and I always left fuming mad, but now we're forced to find a pedi out of town, over 2 hours away, b/c NO pedi in our area will accept new patients that don't vax 100% on schedule.

Sometimes, like times like this, I utterly hate where we live.

And of course now P is sick to the point that I need to take her in. We do still have him till the 17th so I am covered for this visit but UGH this is so frustrating.

/endrant

ETA: I should clarify that upon starting to see him he said he was fine with us not vaxing & has other patients that don't vax either. We didn't have any issues until 6 months came and we "needed" to start P on solids. That's when ftt was threatened and our appts became such an issue.
