We don't have a swing/play set, but have a slide off our deck, mini trampoline (this one: http://www.littletikes.com/all-outdoor-toys/little-tikes-7-trampoline/invt/622311) and just did a massive sandbox last week (about 9 ft wide, hexagon). I like that we aren't committed to one big structure, but the only thing we need is swings! We can see swings from our yard a 3 minute walk to the park though, but our kids would spend alllll day on the swings! Our tramp and slide get a ton of use, they have next to lived in the sandbox since it went in and I expect that will continue.

ETA, we have a 3 y/o (almost 4), 2 y/o and another on the way in January!

we've had ours for 1.5 years and it gets used daily. we love having it because the kids will just run outside and play. I have a 4 and 2 year old, it keeps them easily keeps them occupied so we can do cook/garden or sit on the patio and watch them.

@Purpledaisy: DH and I were just having this discussion, most people we know who have them say their kids dont use them much. Usually the swing gets the most use and any other tree house type play sets just dont get used much

We have one that came with our house and my daughter never wants to use it. I am curious if she will want to use it when she has friends over.

For us it would be a nice to have, but we have a park with a playground that's only a 5-8 min walk so that's the only reason we wouldn't get one. Otherwise, we'd probably use it daily as long as it's not freezing cold!

It continues to get a lot of use, unless there is snow on the ground, my son is in there, especially because it has the tower part.

We have one in our backyard and it's definitely been worth it. It got a ton of use between 18 months to 3 years. Then she started going to school 3 days a week and we had a super super hot summer (and the sun is in the backyard in the afternoon/evening) so it didn't get as much use but still great for when friends came over with their kids or the grandparents came to visit

Now at 4 she can play out there by herself and entertain herself. The best part is when she has friends over they can play out there together with minimal supervision - we can see them through the sliding glass door and hear them easily. She's in school 5 days a week now but even just getting 30 minutes of play time while I prep dinner is awesome for her bc we can't always make it to a park. Even when it's super cold we just bundle her up and she loves playing outside and she can just come in and warm up easily. We love going to the many parks near us but having a big playhouse for swinging, sliding and climbing is so convenient for busy days or lazy days. And I'm expecting her baby brother at the end of the year and it'll be so nice for her to be able to play outside while the baby naps at home

@Purpledaisy: My in-laws bought us this small play set when my LOs turn 1. That was almost 1.5 years ago and we still use it daily. They love swinging (we had baby swings at first, then switched to big kid swings), and can do that for an hour at a time. We only stop because I get sick of pushing them! Now they're old enough to really get into imaginative play, so they pretend to drive the treehouse ship (because it has a steering wheel), get more gas for it, push their stuffed animals down the slide, etc. We get way more use out of it than I imagined we would, actually.

We are thinking about getting a play set for our back yard but I am wondering how much it will actually get used. Is it one of those things that gets used a bunch at first and then is forgotten about? Or does it continue to get a lot of use? Any feedback from those who have one?
