Thanks, everyone! Some of those classes sound great (now I want to take a sign language class! 😂), and it’s helpful to hear what worked out for your kids. I think I’m going to sign my five year old up for some kind of music/dance class. She stays pretty engaged during yoga videos we do, and she’s responded well to her speech sessions going online, so I think she can handle the platform for something short. Especially if I time it right during my younger one’s rest time.

I actually just signed up for one last night (also after seeing several ads on FB!) Haha it's an animal class which my son is really into now and I thought it might be good for keeping him occuppied for an hr. I did read the reviews first.

My 7 year old is taking her 3rd class right now, with 2 more next week, and she's loving it. She did a crafting class, and right now she's doing sign language once a week and art classes, and she's really loving it. The teachers have all been great and have done a great job facilitating, and my kid is enjoying them. That said, she also really seems to have taken well to online learning after the shift in school this spring so the format is working well for her.

We’ve had two good experiences for my 8 year old. I originally looked into it after her art camp got cancelled. She has a really good attention span which helps, and I would read reviews for clues like the teacher moves class along well, keeps kids engaged, etc. Teachers normally keep them muted I think except for questions. There are just a lot of options on there so you do have to dig around.
The two subjects she has done are a cursive class (8 25-min sessions - since they didn’t do much of it at school) and several polymer clay miniatures classes (1 hour) with the same teacher. Those are both right up her alley. I think for an older kid it’s a great way to find something that might not exist locally even if not corona times, so I’ll continue to keep it in mind.

I’ve thought about doing one for my 5 year old, but I’m not sure he has the attention span for zoom and think he is probably just as happy playing his own way.

We signed my son up for a Minecraft class where it sounds like they mostly just get to talk about it while also practicing conversation skills. It's not for a few weeks though, so I'll keep you posted.

We did one class on Outschool. It was okay, and I’ll try another, but there was a kid in the class who was super rude and distracted the other kids. The teacher couldn’t seem to figure out which kid it was, so didn’t mute him or otherwise do anything except say “that’s not nice.” My son was pretty meh about it (he is 7). I have actually looked into teaching in the program (I already teach on-line for a different company), and am still considering it. I think it can be a fun supplement to other learning, but you probably need to do your research to weed through to find good teachers. But there are definitely some cool class offerings!

Has anyone signed their kids up for online classes through Outschool? I keep seeing ads for it (thanks, Facebook and Instagram!) and I'm kind of intrigued, but also feel a little weird about signing up my 3 and 5 year old for a random online class. Curious if anyone has tried it and what your experience was like?

We do one weekly "play and learn" class online already, but it's through a kids' gym we've been part of since my girls were babies, so we're with instructors and kids we know well.
