Mine just turned five and will have 2 days of in person kindergarten and 3 days at home. We tried outschool last week as a way to supplement and entertain her. She absolutely LOVES the classes and seeing the other kids. There’s actually a whole series of phonics classes: unicorns, princesses, construction trucks, astronauts, dragons, fairies. I teach them all as one time classes, but lots of people take more than one with me. I also teach more systematic phonics classes starting at age 5. I really enjoy teaching at Outschool. I’ve been teaching online for three years, but this has been a fun new way to do it. And my boys absolutely love the classes. My oldest is taking a series about logic puzzles and one about making a flipbook, and my middle kiddo is taking some classes to work on fine motor skills. But I don’t do a circle time class. There are some really excellent Facebook groups where you can get recommendations from people who have been doing classes. Some of the requests are super specific and all sorts of people respond, both teachers who have classes that fit that description and families who have taken classes they loved. You can even specify a time. I’d love to find a circle and storytime that is really engaging online. Does that exist for a 5 year old?</p> <p>We’re in virtual public school still but thinking about switching to homeschool after this week. I’ve been half doing it anyway and my Kinder boy is fine 1-1 (if I time it right) but struggling to pay attention during zoom/videos. I think it would be good though if he had something outside just me, if it can be engaging enough. Thanks for ideas! </p>
