So this morning I tried expressing a bit before trying him at the breast. I also reclined way back and put him at an angle so he was kind of advice me, and therefore had to fight gravity to get the milk. He latches quickly, and as soon as he pulled off and stated to cough, I expressed a bit more into aburp cloth, then offered it to him again. he nursed for 20 minutes! Hopefully this continues to work for us!

Yes absolutely can have an over active let down on one side. Or it could be a difference in nipple shapes or how that position feels. My LO started refusing my left side for about a month and a half around 6 weeks. I always tried to put her on the one side and when she cried and fussed I put her on the other. I finally got her to latch and stay doing a modified football hold that felt like acrobatics but after a month I was able to ease her into a cradle hold. Maybe try some new positions? Be persistent but not too forceful. My LO is a stubborn one and went back on that side in her own time lol

@Mrs. Superhero: I don't really think it sprays too hard. I notice when he pulls away it just drips like a leaky faucet. But I'll give that a try.

Very possible. I always had a harder letdown on one side and my girls at first preferred the other side, then as they got older they liked the faster letdown better :) Are you spraying pretty hard if he unlatches? You could just let it spray into a burp cloth until the letdown slows and then latch him on. You could also pump a bit off that side before feeds to ease the pressure.

Is it possible to have overactive letdown on one side? LO nurses great on the left side, but when I try to put him on the right he resists latching - arches his head away, shakes his head, and cries. If he does latch, half of the milk ends up dribbling out of his mouth and all over me and the boppy, and then he pulls away and gags/coughs.

I'm not sure what to do, but I feel so awful because he won't feed from the right side, so I keep putting him back on the left, but then I feel like I'm not making enough milk on the left to satisfy him. Tonight, in our bedtime feeding, he nursed for 47 minutes on the left and 11 on the right...and he's still wide awake and rooting for the boob. I'm at my wit's end! I just had to bring him back downstairs and hand him over to Hubs so I could have a mental breakdown. I feel totally inadequate. HELP!

ETA: He is 11 days old.
