@Mama Bird: suits the “third is a wildcard” theory that floats around. That’s crummy that your others were punctual. Makes it harder.

@muffinsmuffins: wow... yeah, there's always so much guessing involved!

@jape14: It's good you had some warning you'd go late! My older two were right on time so I'm a little surprised  but then this whole pregnancy has been pretty different... I should have known this would happen!

With both of my kids, my due date was based on an early scan - 7 weeks - which lined up exactly with ovulation and not LMP (I ovulate on CD21). I delivered at 41+1 and 40+5, respectively.

I'm 1 of 4 kids and we were all super late so I assumed I would go late and did.

Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse but we did IVF with both our boys and know the exact day of fertilization and transfer (not implantation exactly though) and one was born at 35 weeks and the other 40+4 so I think it’s definitely a guess! And both our 8 week and subsequent ultrasounds showed babies within 1-2 days growth of the dates we went in but we ended up with wildly different birthdays.

@DesertDreams88: I hope that's it, and the earlier date is right!

@misolee: you're scaring me :crying: :silly:

@JennyPenny: I think it was like 8 weeks, so should be in the right ballpark...

@mediagirl: yeah. That would be sweet! It's got to be nice having a day off around your birthday every year.

@MamaBear87: thanks!!!

@avivoca: I know! Baby seems very happy and it's probably just as well she waited, because the whole family was sick last week and we're only just getting better.

@Mrsbells: I've had that happen too, but it wasn't by a whole week so I don't even remember stressing about it.

I kind of wonder if part of why I'm still waiting is just nerves... with two kids to drop off and pick up, there's twice the possibility that someone will throw a tantrum at just the wrong time, and then I'll end up going to the hospital alone while DH is dealing with them. Or that they'll make me late and I'll have the baby in a taxi :bummed:

I am always certain of my LMP but have had my due date moved based on ultrasounds. I never really trusted the ultrasound date but since it was only a few days difference I just let it be

@Mama Bird: My midwives tended to call it a guess date and wouldn't induce until you were 42+1 if the pregnancy was healthy. However, I have two experiences: with DD1, LMP put my due date at 10/12 but my early scan indicated a 10/4 due date. I ended up delivering at 40+4. With DD2, my LMP put my due date at 9/30, but a scan at 7 weeks put my date back to 10/5. I ended up delivering at 41+5 and she was smaller than her sister (who was already on the small side of average). So as long as everything is good with you and baby, I wouldn't worry about being "overdue", because it's all a guess anyway.

My midwives and doula call it a "guess date" regardless of dating babies come in their own time and can often be plus or minus the given date. Fingers crossed you go into labor soon!

I think it depends on how early that early scan is. I think I remember reading somewhere that scans around 6-8 weeks were super accurate but it decreases after that. I know with my DS2 he measured exactly as I expected at an 8 week scan based on when I knew I ovulated, and then by 11 weeks he was measuring a week ahead.

With my first, my periods were all over the place with really long time between ovulation. Based on period dates, my estimated due date was Sept 16. Then after first semester scans, Sept 23. But she was born Oct 1. So there’s that 😅

@Mama Bird: it’s really frustrating and hard to be overdue. But usually there’s a maximum they’ll let you go if you’re with a doctor/midwife so I always reminded myself of that everyday I didn’t go into labour.

Oh, and I forgot that I had a scan at what I thought was 6+1 with my second pregnancy, but it ended up being 6+5 and so they adjusted my due date by those 4 days and my water broke two days before my due date so I guess the adjustment was accurate for me. And at subsequent ultrasounds the baby always measured at the new date not my lmp date.

And if your anatomy measurements matched up with the changed date then I’d assume the early date was correct. You’ll also know based on how big your baby is if it was truly overdue too, I feel. My first baby was definitely overdue at nearly 10 pounds and my second was born at 39+6 at 8.13 so that’s how I gauged that my first one was truly overdue. Haha. Although that’s obviously me just mostly making up stuff for that being an accurate gauge.

@Mrs. Goose: yes, I know they're supposed to be more accurate! This is why I'm confused. I guess I should have prepared mentally for the later date. It would not be so frustrating now.

@Sams Mom: yeah, I wish my doctor hadn't moved the date! I'm not even sure how they're going to decide what to do with me now. The OB office has been pretty incompetent in general, and I have no confidence in them deciding whether to induce me.

I would go off LMP or better yet ovulation if you were tracking. Babies can measure ahead and behind at various times in the pregnancy from what I understand. My doctor wouldn't move my expected due date unless it was more than 2 weeks "because babies come when they want to".

I think they say early scans are usually pretty accurate at dating. My first was two weeks late and showed zero signs of exiting (no Braxton Hicks or contractions, aches and pains, or low baby). and I was induced and baby was out 15 days overdue.

Don’t be worried about being overdue! I think average delivery is something like 40+6 to take into account any errors with dating.

Can a due date based on an ultrasound be less accurate than based on the LMP? My OB originally gave me a due date of 11/21 based on LMP, then bumped it down to 11/15 based on an early scan. Well, 11/15 has come and gone, the baby seems quite content to stay put, and I'm looking forward to still working tomorrow - after telling my boss and everyone that I may not be around all of last week :silly: Thanksgiving this year is going to be... interesting.

I don't know if I should be worried that baby is overdue, or if it's just that my original due date was right.
