I agree, it sounds like you might need to switch up your wash routine. We had a similar strong odor issue and adding more detergent was the solution.

@Mrs. Lion: Ok cool. Funny thing is I just switched to one of the recommended fluff love detergents from one that wasn't...I would've thought it would get better. Although maybe these inserts weren't in that last wash.

I wouldnt worry unless you notice the same smell with daytime diapers. You may need to add more detergent or switch to a stronger detergent.

@brownepiano: I thought of this but the diapers are pretty new and the smell was so different one night to the next.

When I get the ammonia smell it means I need to use more water washing/ strip them. But I use cotton prefolds.

So I finally found an overnight solution that works consistently: BG 4.0 with a microfiber insert and a charcoal bamboo insert. Yay!

Most nights his overnight diaper smells like strong urine. I figure this is normal. That's a lot of urine in there. Well this morning it smelled like strong ammonia. Yuck.

Is this also normal? Maybe he ate something that made his urine stronger? It was a new diaper (prepped) but with inserts I've used maybe 3-5 times before.
