Bumgenius free times or 4.0's with a geffen baby super or quick absorbency insert. We have a heavy wetter to and those seemed to work well around that age.

BG 4.0 are our daytime diapers. There is NO WAY they would work at night for us.

We had big time night wetting problems starting around 7 monthsI use Hemp Babies prefolds they are a hemp/cotton mix and bambo charcoal doublers. http://www.amazon.com/HappyEndingsTM-Charcoal-Bamboo-Inserts-Diapers/dp/B00IXZ96XG?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00

The thing that I heard and has worked the best for us is that mixing fibers helps with absorbency. We also used wool covers for a while, but now we are back to the Thursties and they are fine.

I third using fitteds. This was the ONLY thing that worked for our mega-wetter, including nighttime disposables and wool covers. (Well, doubling up on sized-up nighttime disposables worked, but it wasn't really practical for us in the long run.) We use a fitted made from a prefold with a hemp doubler and a Thirsties cover. No leaks. You can use a microfleece liner to wick away some of the moisture as well.

@MrsScallop: Thanks! I have some good ideas of other things to try now! I ordered a thirsties fitted last night, as well as a BG 4.0. I will try both when they arrive next week and see what works the best for our little guy!

I will second using fitteds. I got through 2 years of using only cloth overnight with those. They add a lot of extra absorbency and you can still add a doubler or two if needed. My favorites were the TotsBots Bamboozles ( http://www.totsbots.com/product-category/bamboozle-stretch-cloth-nappy/ ). Those with a Thirsties cover never leaked for my heavy wetting girl.

@Mrs. J: I agree with the wetness of the fitted. I did try them for a while and, while they worked, I felt bad that my little guy was completely soaked all night. I like that my flip inserts wick.

I may try cloth again at night once he isn't nursing so much & therefore peeing less.

@Mrs. Detour: I just realized you added a link to the Thirsties fitteds. Thanks. So you feel like the fitted was significantly better than a prefold and cover? Did you use the same covers with the fitteds? Are they bulkier than a prefold and cover with a hemp insert added (that seemed incredibly bulky).

@PawPrints: I think I've washed it enough? I prepped them about a zillion times with my prefolds and have used and washed them at least twice or three times a week since, so probably a total of 15 washes.
@Mrs. Lion: I haven't looked into rumparooz...I'll have to check those out.
@MrsYellowJacket: I ran out of clean hemp, so tonight he's in a prefold with a CBI under his thirsties cover. I'm not sure how absorbent the CBI inserts are but I like that they have elastic and are super soft. We'll see how it works.

@LindsayLou: Good to know about the flap. I probably won't bother with flips then. I like my thirsties covers for daytime use just fine.
@DesertDreams88: I thought about fitteds, but I wasn't sure they would be all that different than a prefold with a snappi. Maybe more absorbent?
@Mrs. Pickle: @Mrs. Detour: @Portboston: This is a little embarrassing, maybe more for him than for me, but I don't think he has enough of a penis to point it any direction? I mean, he does have one, but it's still kind of squished into the fat pocket around it, so it just kind of points straight forward.

We use the kawaii heavywetters as well with a microfiber insert and charcoal bamboo insert. The MF on top of the CBI. I also found wrapping a MF with a FST worked wonders as well. It's thick, but it works. I have GMD workhorses on the way that I'm excited to try for nighttime too.

Here's what we tried: 1) bamboo charcoal diapers and inserts 2) bummis dimple diaper plus cover 3) disposables Huggies and Pampers; none of which worked throughout the night.

What did/does work for us is Bumgenius Freetime with a Thirsties hemp insert under the flaps. We've also put it on top of the flaps but your baby will feel the wetness that way, and isn't good if they have sensitive skin.

LO will sleep 12-13 hours through the night and doesn't leak. He's 12 months, and is primarily a stomach sleeper. The Freetimes hold solid waste well, too. We never have blowouts.

BG Freetimes with one Thirsties hemp insert does the trick for us. Hemp needs to go through the wash a bunch of times before it reaches full absorbency, could that be the problem? Though by this point you probably have washed them lots of times. I've heard a lot of people recommend overnight bamboo fitted diapers for heavy wetters.

We also do disposables at night with a tummy sleeper. I was SO over being leaked on during night nursing sessions that I threw in the towel. Our ped also suggested disposables may help him sleep a little better (he's a terrible sleeper and any little thing wakes him!)

Eta- I agree with the pointing down issue. I was only getting leaked on through the top because of the way I was holding him when he was nursing

We had the same problem using pre folds with covers overnight. We solved it with a combination of ecoposh and thirsties duos for overnight (both require a cover). They have pockets and we got some cheapie hemp doublers from Amazon to add in. The thirsties are definitely better easier to wash, but they can be a pain to find. (ETA: Amazon has some colors in stock http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004IEBT22/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?qid=1458941229&sr=8-1&keywords=Thirsties+duo+fab&pi=SY200_QL40)

We use BG 4.0 and 5.0s. At night I add an extra microfiber insert (the one included with the diapers) and it contains the pee. I have to open the diaper to the largest size to have enough room for both inserts. It took a week or so to find the best fit and amount of stuff to avoid leaks. I don't change diapers in the middle of the night since there is no poop.

Random question, but are you pointing his penis down in the diaper? I only ask since he's leaking by the waist in both cloth and disposables. I've read on here that the direction it's pointed makes a difference with leaks.

I only have a 2mo old, so less pee, I'm sure. We have been using a combo of
-BG old-style elementals (OBGE, out of stock but easily available in BST groups)
-pockets with big, double layer hemp inserts (swaddlebees brands) and a microfiber on top
-BG freetimes with bamboo stuffed in the front microfiber flap pocket

This is based on the odds and ends we received from a stash hand-me-down.

These usually last 6-7 hours, we change him once in the MOTN. He hates it too :( I find that giving him 3 gas drops at the start of the change calms him down enough for the couple minutes I need.

I've also heard great things about fitteds and covers. You already have covers so maybe some fitted would be a good addition?

Lastly, applecheeks make a thin bamboo insert that could be added to pretty much anything to boost absorbency. They come in 2 and 3 ply.

We use bumgenius freetimes on my 7 month old for nighttime. She usually sleeps through the night, and even when she doesn't, I don't change her at night anymore. She's also a tummy sleeper. No nighttime leaks so far.

For what it's worth, we have and love flip covers. We use those and thirsties during the day with prefolds. Honestly, I don't think the flap makes a huge difference with preventing belly leaks.

We are really trying to use cloth as much as possible with T. He is 7 months old and so far I haven't found a reliable nighttime diaper solution. He wakes once for a bottle but stays really drowsy. Unless we change him. At which point he fully wakes and SCREAMS. He hates being woken up. So I'd really like to find something that would last through the night. We would all get better sleep.

During the day we are using Thirsties Duo Wraps with GMD prefolds. I have Thirsties hemp inserts that I add for night time but half the time he still leaks out the tummy (tummy sleeper). I'm not sure if its an absorbancy problem or not, it seems like maybe the hemp is too slow to absorb so more urine runs out the top than soaks into the back of the diaper.

I ordered some bamboo charcoal fleece inserts with gussets and will try those tomorrow night. I also want to try a wool cover. I don't like how stiff the hemp inserts are.

So...for all of you experienced cloth diaperers, what worked for you? I thought about trying a flip cover and tucking the prefolds and inserts into the flap so the urine can't escape as easily. Any other ideas?
