Thanks for the advice everyone. I think we'll start with 2 hour blocks for a few days and see how it goes.

My experience is a lot like @cvbee. DS would choke, cough, pull off, & slide down so he was just sucking on the nipple to slow the flow. I block feed, switching every 6 hours (and pumping off an ounce or so when I switched sides to help with the initial let down after not using that side for so long). I also, luckily, didnt have problems with feeling uncomfortable from engorgement.

After 4 days of that I noticed he would get fussy around the last feeding on each boob because the flow was too slow for him. Now I just feed him on one side & switch sides each feeding. I tried offering both sides at a feeding, but he just ends up having huge spit-ups.

Also, he eats every hour during wakeful times. However, he only eats for 5-10 min & he's done. I'm going to try to start pumping once a day to begin building a freezer stash, so I hope I don't start having more oversupply issues from that.

I tried everything for my over-supply and nothing really did the trick. The only thing that eventually corrected it was going on the mini pill for birth control. All of a sudden my oversupply was fixed.

I didn't have a terrible oversupply, but I've always block fed, and I've had a lot of success with it. I'm still feeding often at 13 months, so it's served me well.

It took about a week or so of block feeding for things to get to where I wasn't constantly in pain from engorgement. It took about 2 months of normal feeding to get to the point where my boobs didn't get hard in between feedings (but my supply was the same).

I did one-boob-per-session feeding and still do to this day.

I think what can help the most for the forceful letdown is just letting it spray into a cloth and when it's done put baby back on.

The thing that also helped me the most was to feed baby more often. It took me a long time to try this because I was so convinced that the extra feedings would increase my supply even more and maybe also make my baby over-fed, but it actually eased things for everyone.

You can also nurse in a reclined-position (uphill), and also just know that one day baby will get good at chugging. Until then, at least in my case, it will just be very milky and messy.

LO is 10 days old, and the past few days, he has been choking when I have a letdown, and I've been super engorged. Does anyone have experience with this? I've heard block feeding can help. How did you correct an oversupply, and how long did it take?
