I worry bout this alot. The year my twins were born we got into some bad eating habits. There were so many time when caring for three infants just made making dinner impossible. We ate out a lot and bought quick premade meals all the time. I am starting to revamp our entire eating routines to cut out some of the junk. It's very difficult with my mom and MIL who love to give the kids tons of sweets but I a, working on it. I would hate for them to be overweight like me.

I'd be worried about it regardless of my own weight (which fluctuates between overweight and regular weight depending on when you come across me LOL)

This is actually one of the biggest reasons I am freaked out about having a baby girl (and wanted to have a boy). The pressures of society to be thin combined with the constant barrage of fast food/junk advertising every way we look sets us up for a whole host of problems. I'm hoping we can be an active family that eats healthy, but it worries me that we won't be able to.

ETA: The genes in my family are also not conducive to being at a healthy weight. Almost all the people I know in my family (particularly women) struggle to keep their weight down. Most of them do, but it requires constant hard work.

I am not overweight and definitely still worry about this. It's a tough balance between letting a kid be a kid and have kid goodies like candy and cookies, and teaching them to like healthy foods too. Without making them self-conscious or too "weight aware."

I am worried about this too, but will do everything in my power to make sure it doesn’t happen.
I was never overweight as a child or a teen, but when I turned 18 I had a series of undiagnosed medical conditions that caused me to balloon from 118 to 180 in less than a year.
Since then, I haven’t been able to shed any of the weight. I eat a healthy diet, exercise moderately but nothing I do seems to lose the weight. I’m hoping BFing will help.

I think the best thing we can do for our children is to teach them healthy eating habits, limit junk food and fast food, and make sure that they engage in exercise regularly.
I’m looking forward to teaching my little guy swimming and soccer.

Yes. All the time. DH and I are both big, and are the people that will fight our weight our entire lives. I'm hoping to keep her off sugar and garbage food as long as possible. I don't want her to have the same fight I have.

Yes, absolutely. I have been overweight since I was little and have always struggled. I ate the same things at my 95 pound skin and bones sister. We just have genes from different sides of the family. My DH was very slim as a child so I am hoping she gets some of those genes, although she looks just like me right now, so that has me a bit nervous.

I understand about what you mean with judgement and people assuming you are feeding your child too much. I've decided all I can do is teach her healthy eating and exercise habits so when she is a grown up, she has a good foundation. I will also teach her that it is about being healthy, and not what the scale says. I will also make sure she knows that there are worse things in the world than being chubby or overweight, and she should love herself just the way she is. :)

I'm also really concerned she'll get my "boob" gene. I had a reduction about 18 years ago and was left with a full size D boob - after having 2.5lbs taken out of each! I hope and pray she gets "normal" size boobies. That may have been tougher than growing up chubby.

Yes and no. I'm not super thin but am trying to be more healthy. I am just worried about making sure she knows how to eat right and exercise (stay active at least).

I actually wasn't overweight as a kid. I was thin my whole life. I was 116 pounds in middle school, 120 pounds in high school, and 130 pounds when I got married. But right before LO came, a whole bunch of events happened right in a row that caused me to gain weight.

-I had taken a migraine med that made me lose a lot of weight (got down to 107 pounds) and getting off of it to TTC made me gain a TON of weight.
-I got pregnant and gained weight from that, and then miscarried. And then I comfort ate from that.
-I got pregnant again right away without losing that weight.
-I had bleeding early in that pregnancy so I was put on pelvic rest and couldn't exercise for a long time.
-My migraines got very bad and I ended up not being able to exercise..... ever again! They trigger migraines for me now.... ever just walking a little bit does :(

So now I am overweight, and my LO is also a big girl. She is in the 95th percentile in weight and off the charts in height. The doctor doesn't say anything about it, she doesn't look obese or anything, but there's no question about it, she's big.

I always feel like people look at me and think I'm responsible for making my LO big. She eats soooo healthy though, and if it's genetics it had to come from DH's side, he was the husky child! Still I can't help but feel bad, and I'm scared that she will end up overweight and be teased for it. My sister was always a little overweight even though she was active and ate sooooo healthy, it was just in her genetics, she took after my dad's side of the family. I don't want my LO to have to go through that :(
