Thanks ladies! The appointment didn't go as expected. She did say that I "most likely" have PSOC & is treating that with Metformin. This will help regulate my insulin. I was on it several years ago because I was borderline diabetic so I am familiar with the drug. However, she didn't test ANYTHING during my visit. No insulin levels, thyroid (it's still enlarged), hormones, nothing but my height and weight. She did give me a RX for a prenatal :-) We have put TTC on hold for now due to all the stress that we have put on ourselves these last couple months. It will give the medication time to work and give us time to prep the oven so it's it tip top baby making shape! It's already helped reduce the stress around here.

I saw my doctor for a pre-conception appointment and she thought I was crazy :) your thyroid could still be enlarged because you were on BC...that's how mine was. Since you were not trying/trying for 6 months, it might be time to try using OPKs to time things a little better?

I think besides taking a prenatal vitamin and just trying to take good care of yourself (which you should do always, although that's easier said than done), the most important thing by far is to relax. I was in the same boat as you when we first truly committed TTC - I had issues with my cycle before being on BC, and I think I worked myself up so much that it just didn't happen - once I finally chilled out with the charting and constant never ending thinking about it was when we got pregnant :) Your doc has probably worked with a lot of people with similar potential health issues and will help you on that end - on yours, just relax :)

Thank you Ladies for making me feel welcomed! The family isn't pressuring me at all. The occasional when are you have kids, or the you never know when it could happen, is expected and welcomed. It tells us that they are okay with us being parents.

As far as being over weight...yeah I am. It is something I have always struggled with. At my high I was 300 at my low I was 150. Now back up to 220. We have had lots of stress the last two years that we have been married and we have both found comfort in food. We both have some nasty habits to kick on top of some health concerns which is making this, not a very pleasurable experience!

Aww sorry!!! That is so much information..

btw, I really hope his family doesn't pester you about TTC - in general when someone tells others they're TTC they get asked ALL. THE. TIME. I had one lady who was told by my friend that I was TTC and she asked my sister every week if I was pregnant yet. Gahh!!

As for info:
While you're TTC fish in any amount is fine, once your pregnant, limit your fisk intake to about once a week. There are some great guides on line for when you're pregnant: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/fishmercury.htm

It is recommended to start prenatal vitamins once you start TTC. Also try to get a diet HIGH in folic acid- it is in tons of dark, leafy greens) as it is vital in the first trimester, particularly the first month, and you don't even know you're pregnant until halfway thru the first month!!

As for weightloss - are you overweight? I wouldn't worry about it TOO much. Just try to eat healthy, exercise regularly (exercising throughout pregnancy is a great idea. It's one thing I regret, I only did it intermittently) and don't worry so much about the numbers :)

I do think the tests are a good idea if you feel you'd like to know that stuff first!

If you have any more questions - the board loves to provide information. Everyone here is so helpful and awesome. Welcome to Hellobee :)

Well, I can't relate to everything-but I am catholic also & switched from bc last aug to nfp and just charted, not really paying attention to much other than length of cycle. We got preg in dec. my biggest thing was I wasn't going to read anything or get disappointed because I thought it would ale a really long time. I just had to have faith that He would time things perfectly.

Hey all I am new to hellobee & to these types of forums period! A little history for you... I married a Catholic two years ago and this April I converted. Along with my transition to the Catholic faith we made the switch from BC to NFP. I am on month 6 post BC & have regular cycles.

We started out trying to avoid fertile times for the first 3 months as advised by our Dr. That didn't exactly happen. (Sex post BC is hot!) I instantly started to get excited about the possibility of being pregnant. I have always wanted children. I feel as it is my calling in life to be a mommy. After 6 months of ups and downs, not avoiding but not trying, the husband announces to the family (and me) that we are trying (surprise!!!)

With this new news I decided to buy a book, What to Expect BEFORE Your Expecting. HOLY INFO OVER LOAD! Lose weight (but not to much or to fast), eat healthy (salmon is okay cause its high in iron but then its not okay cause it's high in mercury) , take vitamins (but not to many, you don't want to OD, your suppose to be eating healthy anyways). Not to mention the load of information the husband should be doing or not doing (he's not ready to hear all that yet lol).

Needless to say I have called my doctor for a preconception appointment for this Tuesday. Which is something I thought I had already done with her. I must not have been clear enough about my expectations of that appointment. The last 6 months I have been experiencing side pains just on the inside of my left hip. It's almost always there and gets worse around ovulation every month. The Dr mentioned PSOC last time I was there but did not test because on physical exam she didn't feel any cysts. AND she said my thyroid felt swollen but didn't feel it was necessary to test sense we had just tested it 5 months prier during my annual (still on BC at that time)!!

I have mixed feelings about this appointment. I have been seeing her for 5 years now and we are both excited about me having babies. However, I really don't want to be messing around with this forever. I have started a list of things I want to discuss with her and am hopeful that if I put my foot down and demand some of these test that my problems may finally have answers.

If you are still reading this THANK YOU! I know it's a book, this is all just so new to me...Can anyone else relate, have any advice or ideas on questions I should be asking?
