I used a mesh feeder for sweet potatoes. He liked sucking on the feeder and made a face when he realized what it was.

The best advice I ever received about this was "food is fun" before one. This shouldn't make you stressed out. Just introduce one food at a time. I don't think DS was getting two "meals" a day before he turned 9 months old. So, if you ahve time for it, give it to her for dinner. If not, she is still getting all her nutrients from breastmilk or formula.
We did a version of Baby Led Weaning, and offered him some finger foods, but I didn't start to really let loose until he had more teeth (like maybe 10 or 11 months?). So don't worry about the mush. And, it is suppose to smell like that! Ha! There's a reason we don't remember being that little, and that is one of the reasons!

...oh BTW since you waited until six months he can handle a chunkier puree. So really it is no extra effort to make food. I just mush up some veg or fruit with a little water, or put it in the mesh feeder. Since we only offer 1 food per week I haven't even had to cook anything yet! Next week we will offer sweet potato and I am just going to bake 3-- two for us and one for him. That one potato will be enough for him for a week; if it isn't I'll just mix it with raw banana to stretch it for the week.

We just started last week and honestly it hasn't been much of a change. When they first start they don't eat but a bite or so. So his poop hasn't changed and I am still nursing as often as usual. We try to offer solids once a day, usually before bath/bed. We have skipped lots of days. If you are EBF solids are not necessary until 1 year so I am not stressing it. We have offered raw mushed up avocado and banana. We also offer a mesh strainer. He doesn't like to be fed so I just give him a loaded spoon or put some on his tray to try. I wouldn't worry about daycare until you have a routine down! And definitely nurse before offering food if you feel that your supply is dwindling!

We started with oatmeal cereal at 4 months. Now at 6 months, we do some purees. We were told to treat it like appetizer or dessert at the beginning. Our dude's not interested, but we try at least once a night with it.

My LO is 6 months tomorrow. I feel like I'm the only mom who waited until 6 months to start any solids. I work and am out of the house from 7:15-5:45 Monday through Thursday and honestly put it off more for convenience to our schedule plus I just didn't feel she was ready. She just started sitting unassisted this week and really grabs at our plates, so she's definitely ready now.

I was planning on making food at home, but decided not to add another chore to my endless list anyway and hubs and I bought some jars. They're earths best organic first foods and they just seem so runny and gross! I'm seeing pictures of friends babies gnawing on finger foods and I feel bad I waited so long and she has to eat mush! Maybe she won't even like it, who knows.

I should be excited to start this next phase, but I'm just sad my LO is growing up and I'll be nursing less (my supply is dwindling anyway.) I don't know when I'll have time to feed her and how to introduce foods one at a time. What do I send to daycare? I feel like it will take ages. I know it's more fear of the unknown, but its overwhelming!
