Based off of my own experiences and friends, the only reasons you might see multiple +OPK's would be 1) PCOS or 2) You're pregnant. Have you taken a pg test?

I have PCOS and my symptoms were weight gain around the middle, horomonal issues/acne/skin issues, and apparently I wasn't ovulating regularly. Just had my first cycle on metformin and it apparently helped me ovulate because I got my BFP yesterday!

Take a pg test and let us know... if it's neg then I think you need to talk more to your doctor. But I also agree with other posters that you should start tracking other fertility signs like temps and CM.

@Lizzy612: That's great to hear! If your cycle is always 45 days, then I would call that regular! Long, but regular! Sorry if I scared you about the PCOS. For me, I kinda saw the signs in myself but my doctors didn't help me get to a quick diagnosis, which I really, really regret. So any time I hear the words "irregular cycle," I encourage people to ask their doctor about PCOS.

In any case, welcome to HB and I hope your OPKs help you with your second LO!

@ coffebean ... Thank for answering. I never had any of those symptoms. My cycle has always been about 45 days, and I would get a normal af nothing out of the ordinary. I don't have any symptoms that would suggest high testosterone levels. But your comments have helped me ... Thank you!

@Lizzy612: I totally forgot to mention my hormone levels! I think I have elevated testosterone levels, too.

Hmm...how to describe my irregular cycles? Let's see. There was one episode of reddish-brownish spotting for about three weeks. There was one 46-day cycle, a couple 22/23-day cycles, I got a positive OPK on day 21 and then started spotting on day 22 and then AF the next day... Things like that.

I have PCOS, my symptoms are high testosterone levels (though not high lh), abnormal hair growth, irregular cycles/annovulation, and the classic chain of pearl-like cysts around my ovaries.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the comments. I did being it up with my obgyn before but she said that I don't have pcos. She took some history and because the only issue I had was irregular cycles with no other symptoms she said most likely it's not pcos. I did not have an issue conceiving with my first child, it happen on the first try. I will say I never had an ultrasound done, because doctor said she was pretty sure from my history that pcos is unlikely. She said pcos usually accompany a few other symptoms that I do not have. For those of you who have pcos, can you tell me some of your symptoms?

Thanks

I used to get days and days of positive OPKS and could only really tell when I O'd by taking my temperature every day and waiting for my temp to jump.

I agree with the other ladies here that 1) you might want to ask your doctor about PCOS because of your irregular cycles and 2) if you're up to it, temping (fertilityfriend.com) might be helpful.

(I freaked out when I first thought I might have PCOS, but there really was no need because modern medicine can do wonders! No BFP for me just yet, but I feel like I'm in great hands with my doctor and he thinks that it'll happen soon.)

If you look up PCOS, hormone levels are often out of whack, and so the luteinizing hormone that OPKs test for doesn't quite indicate what it usually does in most women, which is why it's not a great predictor of ovulation. Temping, however, when done accurately, will show you if and when you've ovulated. In your situation, I temping would show you if and when ovulation is happening so your doctor will have more information to work with.

Let us know if you have any other concerns or if this information raised any more questions!

The fact that you're having so many days of positive OPKs combined with your irregular cycles suggests that you could have PCOS, in which case OPKs might not be reliable for you. Normally you're supposed to O 12-36 hours from your first positive OPK, and it's more typical to have 1-2 days of positive OPKs.

One thing I would suggest is to BD before a positive OPK, because you want the swimmers to be up there and waiting already. And like @marionberry said, charting gives you a better idea of when you've ovulated (though not when you're about to) so you can figure out how long your LP is and when to test.

@lizzy612: If you feel up to it, I might start charting/temping. It will allow you to know exactly when you O'd by confirming it with a temp jump. Since you're having odd cycles and long lengths of positive opk's it might be a benefit.

Welcome @Lizzy612! Generally, if you're taking them daily, the day of the first negative OPK is the day you have O'd. Most people only get one positive day though. Its also possible to get a positive, negative, then another positive. That means that your body tried to O, but didn't for some reason. It also helps to take them at the same time, and afternoon is usually best. I've heard that OPKs aren't reliable for people with PCOS, so that is something to consider if you think you could have it. Hope that helps!

Hi everyone

I am new to this site and I been reading all the posts for the last few days. This is the first time that I used an opk kit. I do have one little angel boy that just turned 4, and we decided to try for another one. This is the first month ttc.

So I need a little help. I have a irregular cycle and its been this way since I was a child. But for the last year or so I been getting my period every other month. That's y I decided to use an opk to help me determine my OD.

Opk showed a positive last Wednesday at 1030am, so hubby and I bding on Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Sunday night. I had to leave out of town for Friday and Saturday so we couldn't. But everyday since my first positive I had tested positive till Saturday (weds, thurs, fri, and sat were well positive). Sunday when I tested at night I got a negative. On Thursday the day after my first positive, in the morning about 8am I was having cramps till about noon, so I am not sure if I O, because my opk still showed up positive till Saturday night, that was the last positive I got.

So question is when did I O, so I don't know how many days after O n I don't know when to start testing. I also don't know how long my LP is. But I been having mild cramps for last few days.

Any suggestion or comments would be great!
