I actually don't think the timing makes a difference, TBH. It's not like pregnancy tests, in that more concentrated urine will make a darker line. Either you're ovulating or not -- no matter what time of day, if you're close to ovulating, the line will be as dark as the control. I've actually read that to really get it exact, once the line is almost as dark, you could take more than one in a day to really pinpoint it. I never did that, though. ETA: even just googling I see different things, lol. Some say first thing in the morning, some say between 10 and 8, some say 12-8, and some say take twice a day. I can only speak from my personal experience, but I think I took them when I got home from work and got a pretty clear positive when the time came.

@Honeygold89: yes, I just aimed for around 2-3 pm every time, I think the results seemed pretty consistent.

@Sams Mom: thanks for the advice if things don’t work this month I may try temps too.

@MoonMoon: Ah yeah you’re right, it was first pee for HCG not ovulation lol, I’ve been out of the ttc game too long but what about day’s when you’re we’re off, did you just aim for the same time every afternoon?

Hello fellow night shift RN! I had always heard that ovulation tests are best done with afternoon urine. So I'd get home, go to sleep, then test when I got up at around 2 or 3 pm.

I would test at the time that is considered your morning and considered your early afternoon. So if you get up at 1700 to go to work, test then; and then also test a couple hours after "midday", so 0200-0300 ish?

It really comes down to concentration of urine (more so for HCG than LH tests) and when you personally surge. Kind of feel it out and see which gives you the most accurate readings compared to CM and/or temps.

Hey everyone so after taking a few years off from ttc DH and I are ready to start again! So I am a registered nurse and work overnights at the hospital (7p-7a) 3 sometimes 4 nights a week.

I brought ovulation tests since I have had luck with them in the past plus I want to get a better grip on my cycles because I only have one tube and every other month my cycle is long ( about 45 days instead of my normal 30-34 days) which my doctor said would happen when my egg drop from the left (missing tube side) since it had further to travel.

So long story short my question that I’m hoping someone maybe able to answer is when should I test on days where I’m just getting off work after 7 am after being up all night since the best time to take ovulation tests is early am?
