I ended up giving her one bc she wanted to suck so bad. She was only 3 days old. She liked the soothie and we took them away at 4 months at night. Now she can take it or leave it, before she had to have it.

@Revel: Glad to hear you were able to introduce the pacifier!! I know all the advice is to wait like 4 weeks, but I think a lot of times when people do that, the baby won't take it! We introduced at 2.5 weeks and have been soooo happy to have done that! My boobs needed a break and Xander likes the pacifier just fine! If he's actually hungry, he just immediately spits the pacifier back out, but it's so nice to have something to use when he just wants to suck on something and I need a break! It also helped us when we were trying to get Xander to sleep through the night, so I hope your LO will keep taking it!

We introduced it around 2 weeks for the same reasons. It took us four brands before finding one DS liked.

The nurses gave our LO a soothie at the hospital. We are still breastfeeding at 7.5 months old so it didn't have an impact at all. She spits it out when she is actually hungry.

The LCs at our hospital suggest pacifiers for preemie & lazy nursers to encourage the baby's suck reflex.

Our LC actually recommended that we introduce a paci bc LO would suck for 3 hours if I'd let him! She gave us a Soothie, and he only takes it if he's not hungry. No problems here!

We started a soothie at 2.5 weeks. He loves it. Won't take it if he's hungry. No problems here!

Mine gets really mad if she's hungry and her pacifier gives no milk :p sucking is a natural comfort for babies. Let your nips heal!!

we tried at 4 weeks and she wouldn't take it. kept trying, and she will occasionally take it- but usually only in the car or carrier to fall asleep. I actually wish we had tried a little earlier, because I think it would be helpful in getting her to nap alone. We use natursutten pacifiers. she hates avent pacifiers. we haven't tried nuks.

My LC actually encouraged me to introduce it at 2 weeks. She said that as long as DD's had a good feed and transferred well, there's no harm in giving her a pacifier for awhile to help her fall asleep. She said that if she was hungry she would spit out the paci and cry. She said really any brand is fine.

Unfortunately, our DD never really took to them, so I'm now her pacifier....* sigh *

We have tried a pacifier from day 1. At first she didn't like it. Now I think she will be she doesn't get it. Spits it out. Will suck on it when half asleep but then she gets mad it isn't Mommy's boob.

We introduced the paci at the hospital after his circ, and only in the car after that if he was upset. He won't and hasn't taken it since he was about 3 weeks old. He prefers sucking on his forearm. Btw LO is 6 weeks old.

LO is two weeks old, and we are thinking about introducing a pacifier. She is EBF and my nipples are still kind of trashed, and she seems to want to suck ALL. THE. TIME.

Any thoughts on paci introduction, provided I still make sure to feed her at least every 2-3 hours and/or at her cues?

My thought is that she won't take the paci if she's truly hungry, plus the best thing for our BF relationship right now is probably for me to heal.

I am of course concerned about disrupting my supply this early by not getting enough stimulation at the breast.
