At first she looked really confused and spit it out a few times. Later on I knew she wasn't hungry because she had just nursed. She would suck once or twice then fall asleep but wake up if I moved at all and want the boob again. So I tried the paci again and she instantly fell asleep--my boobs finally get a break! Sometimes she'll finish eating but still try and shove my nipple in her mouth to comfort suck and she'll end up gagging on my nipple and spitting up! We use the soothie brand. He was fussing while being changed, and I stuck it in his mouth and he immediately calmed down. The pacifier has been a lifesaver! LO is EBF, and he often does just what you described. Sometimes he'll fuss and cry at the breast because he wants to comfort suck without eating. For several days, I embraced cluster feeding, because I knew it was something she needed. Now, the cluster feeding is getting less frequent, but I've noticed that even when she's finished eating (and pulls away from the boob herself), she tries to suck on her hands, my arm, whatever. </p> <p>Just wondering when you introduced a pacifier, how you introduced it, and whether it made a difference for your LO. I've got a full collection of pacis upstairs, but I'm just trying to decide when/how to start using them. </p>
