We had her give it to Santa on Xmas Eve. We prepped her for months and said that if she gave her Nuk to Santa, then she would get presents. We repeated this every few days for three months. it was on her terms and she was the one who wrapped it up and put it under the tree for him. Well, we had zero issues in her doing this and it was not expected! She loved her Nuk and wanted it whenever possible. I'm also happy to say that it has not affected her sleep one bit and she has only asked about it once! Mama and Daddy are very happy campers!!

Could you do the same, with say, the Easter Bunny that will be coming? She is at the right age to understand. My daughter is 2.5 years old..good luck!

We dropped it cold turkey the week she turned 3. She was only using it for sleeping but it was a huge comfort for her. We talked it up for months prior, that she was going to be a big girl and pacifiers were for babies etc. The first few nights were awful but she is now over a month out and has figured out how to fall asleep without it. She also got a big girl bed at the same time so we linked those together. You can do it!

I just binky-weaned my 2 year olds last week! It took two nights, way easier than I thought it would be. These are boys who would prefer to have 3 binkies each - one to suck on and one to hold in each hand.

They already were only getting the binky for naps and bedtime. For a few weeks before we binky-weaned, we would make them give up their binky after they woke up before they were allowed out of their cribs.

So at bedtime the first night, I cut a little bit of the bulb part off their binkies. They weren't happy about it but they could still suck on it. They cried for about 20 minutes in their crib before falling asleep, which is a lot for them.

The second night, I cut more of the bulb part off so there was just a tiny bit left they could still suck on. They went to bed no problem that night, but did ask for a new binky. We said no, that is your binky.

The third night, I cut all of the bulb part off, so there was just a tiny stub, nothing that they could really suck on. At bedtime, they asked for their binkies and we gave it to them. They didn't like it because now they can't suck on it, and one of them handed it back over and said I don't want it. So the third night, they went to bed without binkies and we've been good since!

Naps are a little rougher because they're not as tired so it has been taking them longer to fall asleep. But that's also because they play around together in their cribs, throwing things back and forth. :silly:

What does she need it for, sleeping? We had a problem weaning my son from it as well, but what worked for us was to limit it to just sleeping times and not being allowed to take it out of the house. Then we dropped it for naps, then finally for night time.

Poke a hole in it or cut the tip off. That will render it essentially useless in terms of providing comfort from the sucking and she will probably be more amenable to giving it up. Has worked like a charm for everyone I know!

Wasn't sure where to put this for sure. Feel free to move it.

My 2.5 yr old won't drop the binky. No matter what I do she has to have her binky. She literally had mental breakdowns without it. She will sit there and cry, " binky where'd it go?" For hours until she gets it back (this is only when she is tired). She starts going to school in the fall and I have a feeling binky breaking is going to take a while. How do I break her of this binky habit?
