Mine never got into paci's, but I asked my pediatrician about switching to a toddler bed and potty training (2 years old), her advice was to wait most changes out until after we get a new normal with the new baby, then worry about all of that later on (when we won't be getting as much sleep either ;) ).

It just depends what works best for your family. We are starting the precursors to both now so neither are entirely foreign to him, but taking it easy on ourselves over the next couple of months as we have so many changes as a family.

I'm due next week and my LO is 21 months. After 2 nights of terrible tears trying to get her to drop it, we're waiting until after baby.

We were debating this same issue. LO is 19 months and our baby is due in six days. We thought about weaning her from it but then worried that she would just come along and take the new baby's whenever she wanted it. It's too late for us to start weaning now so we'll see how we go!

I plan on weaning him off the paci after our vacation in April, but before baby #2 comes in June/July. Good luck!!

I would do it now while you have the attention and energy to deal with it. I did it right around that age and it took like 3 days. Once the baby came, LO understood that it was for babies only and there was zero confusion.. I had a friend who didn't before the baby and her 3 three year old still has one because she hasn't had the time to devote to it since the #2 still isn't sleeping through the night.

I have zero personal experience, but rather comments from my SIL. She says she wishes she had weaned her DD from the paci and potty trained her before #2 came along. But for the potty training, my niece was definitely showing signs of readiness, was 2.5, and very capable of understanding what was going on.

My plan was to do it before so he wouldn't get confused as to why the baby had one but he didn't. He ended up getting rid of it himself at 15 months when he had a stuffy nose. So glad!

I waited until after.
DS was 2.5 when his sister came along and I think it helped calm him.

However about 3 months later I started to poke holes in them and got rid of them - at his age we were able to talk about it and there were zero tears.

LO is 17 months old and still has a pacifier when she sleeps. Sometimes in the car or if she's sick as well, but not much if at all during the day. I am trying to decide if I should wean her from it now (due in 8 weeks), or wait until after the baby is here to wean. Thoughts? Advice?
