@Anagram: My LO had a front tooth knocked out when she was 13 months, so her teeth are already a little messed up ... I figure I don't want to ADD to that issue. :) Your transition from the paci sounds pretty good!! Thanks for sharing.

@avivoca: Oh! I didn't think about a gift ... though, I feel like my kid doesn't care about anything but her paci, lol.

@lovehoneybee: For those wake-ups, did you have to help E get back to sleep? Or did you just let him figure it out? I'm open to both ... I just don't know if going in there, and having her say, "I need my paci!" is a good idea, ha.

We paci-weaned about a month ago. It was definitely affecting her teeth and pushing her front teeth outward. Although originally, her dentist told us she could use it till 3, at her 2 months appointment, the dentist pointed out the protrusion in her front teeth and we decided we needed to ditch the paci after LO got used to the new baby.

The first night she was a little upset and my husband laid with her till she fell asleep. Same story for the next nap, but by the next evening there were no tears and she just asked where paci was, and we reminded her we gave them to the babies (that was our story).

She actually handled it really well, and hasn't ever tried to steal the baby's pacis.

We took E's pacifier away right about that time. We spent a month or two talking about how "sassies" were for babies, and he's not a baby anymore, he's a big boy (this works very effectively with him). He was only using them at night and for daycare naps, and one night, without consulting me, D told him it was time to throw it away.

The first night was a little rough...he cried a bit before bed, and woke up twice crying for it, but he adapted to losing it very, very well. Within 3 or 4 days he was fine without it.

We are right there with you. My LO is a bit older than yours, but she's hardcore attached to her pacis. We've been talking up the paci fairy and how she's going to come and take her paci's/binkys and give them to the new babies that need them and in return, she will bring her an Elmo doll. It is working (i think), but sometimes she tells us that she will just go to the store and buy some new binkys.

The blog post today reminded me that we really need to get LO's paci away from her ... she only has it when she's sleeping, which is a great thing, but we're ready to be done with it. She's a great sleeper, but sometimes she'll lose it, and then freak out (and not be able to get back to sleep). Also, I'm not sure of the science, but I worry about her teeth.

Her spring break is coming up, and I'm thinking it's a good time to work through this.

None of them are broken (like the blog post author mentioned), and since she's verbal, I feel like I'd like to talk to her about it.

Should I start talking about it now? How long did it take for your older child to adjust? Any other tips?
