@snowjewelz: we have the problem where one pacifier isn't good enough. he has to have TWO for sleep. One in mouth and holding one.

@winniebee: Yeah.. I think I need to start being more conscious about not keeping them where she can see them. She knows they sit on the drying rack, so she'll asks for it, then walks over there or points there if I'm holding her! It shouldn't be THAT hard to distract her.......... I hope!

@anonysquire: I would wait...she'll be grumpy and probably be crying a lot at naps and bed. But, I would do them both at the same time!

@snowjewelz: we're int he same boat. R never really cared for it much until he was 8 months old and then he could crawl for it. Now, we really try to limit to naps and bed, but of course he's been so sick this winter....and always seems to find one laying around and then gets it! We're going to make a concerted effort to only use them at naps and bed now though. And I'm going to try and paci wean by 18m....after that, I think it just gets really, really hard.

Do you think it would help or be worse to stop the binky while we have guests in town? Like would that be a distraction haha? Or would she just be grumpy?

We cut the binky cold turkey at 2 years old. He cried for it for the first few days, but it started to be out of sight, out of mind. If you do it this way, you'll be in for a few rough days, but then it should be smooth sailing!

Ugh we need to work on this also. We never cared b/c she used binky for sleeping, but after she turned 1 she suddenly started asking for it all the time too! But then she's been literally sick all winter, so I feel bad to take this comfort from her...

We also limited paci time from all the time while teething to naps/bedtime. When he went cold turkey on it, it was like CIO for a week or so. When LO #2 arrived, I worried that he would take a shine to the baby's pacifiers. He had no interest in them and neither does the baby.

Thank you for all the advice ladies! And every time I have tried to hide them my oldest cries for forever asking for "binky!!!". I think we will try the binky only at bedtime and nap for a week.

@anonysquire: I just wanted to add, we pacifier weaned around 18 months and it turned out to kind of be a non-event (and this kid LOVED his pacifier). He cried for naps the first time I tried so we started with bedtime instead. The next day at nap time he motioned to the spot that it usually was, I just told him no and he cried a little longer than normal before sleeping. After his nap I showed him that all the usual hiding spots were empty and after that he was fine!

I would maybe take your cues from how they respond when other dear things go missing.

We ditched the paci at 1 with DD and it was super easy. She hardly noticed. I think the longer you wait the harder it is, so I'd do both now.

Dying from cuteness. Right before we had DD we confined DS's binkies to his bed. He could go take a break with one if he was sad or tired but couldn't walk around with it. He didn't seem to care much that the baby had one, because she clearly used it when she was sad too. It was pretty smooth. It took him a few days to figure out how to deal with his feelings without a binky and I offered a teether a lot the first few weeks because his fingers kept creeping up into his mouth. Try it with both! But be prepared to do extra cuddling and book reading and distracting while they learn other self soothing tools.

We cut her off just after one for binky's all the time. When she was 1.5, we limited it to just nap and night. Now she is 28 months and doesn't use the binky at school but does at home. Wo is growing up next weekend.

Following with zero advice. My 2.5 year old needs TWO at all times. "Extra binky" is just as import at. Ugh. Luckily my 1.5 year old never took one, which sucked early on, but sure is a blessing now!

My oldest is about to turn 2 (sob) and is ADDICTED to her binky. Like cries for it. And always has to have it in her mouth. I know we need to wean her from it. My question is, should I also wean my youngest who is about to turn 1 (another sob!)? Just kill 2 birds with one stone? Or am I going to go crazy weaning 2 from the binky at once? Any tips? Besides cutting the binkys. Just go cold turkey and hide them? I'm so scared!!!

Also will they relapse when next baby comes and is using a binky?
