Thanks for the info ladies! somehow I missed most of your comments...

We cut a slit in it and that had been going well. Yesterday he fell asleep for naps without it and bedtime. It usually draws out the process but he isn't crying, just talking until he gets settled. Now today, ugh! He has been waking up a little early, which I understand for now, but today it was at 5:45 instead of 7 and he is now exhausted but every time I try to put him down for a nap results in tears and I feel bad.

Am I pushing him too soon? Baby #2 comes in the beginning of Jan or earlier and I want him to be over this transition and without it by then. I feel like we are so close and he hasn't used a good nuk in over a day so I don't want to turn back if we are almost there!

My DS has been getting the binky only at naps and night sleep for several months now. We went cold turkey several nights ago and it was much better than I thought it would be. He is 22 months. He cries for the same amount of time without the binky as be did with it (less than 10 seconds). I consider that a win. I was glad not to have to cut it up or anything and prolong the process. We were in a similar situation where he would fight for it on some days so I opted to just get it over with before it became even more traumatic!

Oooo I apparently get parenting points taken away for this one. At nearly 18 months, DS still uses a pacifier. Primarily for sleep/naps, occasionally car rides, only around the house when he find ones/injured himself to tears. When I go to wake him up, I say "Pacifier", hold my hand out, he spits it out, and I put it in a basket. And that's it.

Still gotta figure out how to get over this hurdle. I'm sure he can soothe himself but I don't know.

My LO doesn't use a paci (anymore) but he is super attached to his lovey. Like Mrs. Jacks, we make a big production about saying 'bye bye lovey' in the morning and after naps. It used to go back into his crib but now we put it in his daycare backpack. They've adopted the same routine at daycare after naps too.

We allow it only for naps and night now. We just make a big production of saying bye-bye to it and putting it in the basket when she wakes up.

We got rid of the pacifier at 17 months. We had been talking about how it was time and one Friday night I just decided that was it. We had previously agreed that we would start on a Friday evening and work on it all weekend before sending her back to daycare on Monday.

I wasn't brave enough to throw them away. They were all gathered up and put in a hiding spot until I was ready to throw them away (just two weeks ago!).

She cried the first night but we never looked back. She has stuffed animals and blankets in her bed that she can snuggle with.

Honestly, it was much easier than I was prepared for.

DS is 16 months old and we really want to get rid of his pacifier. He really only used it to sleep, during bad car rides, or when he accidentally found one somewhere. So this past weekend we started only letting them in his room/crib. It went fine, but now he is extra attached after naps/waking up and fights & cries to give it up. I am thinking we need to just cut it out altogether.

How did getting rid of pacifiers after 1 year go for you?
Any tips? tricks? advice? or is this just gonna suck? :(
