@banana: that is a good idea. But she already has an Elmo doll that she is obsessed with and like 5-6 other stuffed animals that sleep on her bed. But maybe we can come up with something else like that. Thanks for your input!

@T.H.O.U.: we put most of them away for the new baby (my niece is due on November and she gets the idea of giving stuff she doesn't use anymore to her little cousins. There is nothing that I can see wrong with the paci but I hoping if we get through these next few days, maybe it will be worth it. Thanks!

Is the pacifier broken? I have heard of people cutting it some so its hard to suck or even putting a bitter taste to it to make it less desirable.

I would probably use it as an opportunity to just cut it out. We try to use a lot of distraction when she asks for it and over time it works. Sometimes even helping them rationalize, like, Since the paci is yucky we need to throw it in the trash and the garbage man will come get it. Then you can remind them of what happened when they ask for it.

Maybe you can offer her something else. Like buy her a verrrrrry special NEW and exciting stuffed animal and say that this new friend will be her sleeping buddy from now on! She could probably use a transitional lovey right now.

My 21 month old still takes a pacifier at night to go to sleep. I still rock her down. (Don't judge.) This has been working ok for us. Then last night she declared her pacifier "yucky!" and sobbed her poor little heart out on and off for at least 30 minutes before finally collapsing. I tried everything I could think of and she was just sad and intermittently saying "yucky" through her tears.

I thought it was maybe a one night thing but we had a repeat performance tonight. I am not sure my nerves can take this much crying every night.

On the one hand, if she is ready to give up the pacifier, I am not going to complain as we can skip that battle. But it is so hard for her and hard for me to see her so upset and be able to do so little to soothe her.

Has anyone else gone through this? Or anyone have advice in general?
