We ended up just getting a pack 'n play with the bassinet feature. It also has a changing table which was great when DD was a newborn. The bassinet pack n' play has worked awesome for us! We kept it in our master & just took it with us for weekends away, etc. I sometimes dream of a pretty bassinet for the next baby, but honestly we never missed not having one. We still use it when DD is having really bad teething pain & is up many times at night...it's just easier sometimes to put her back to sleep in our room.

I liked the Rock and Play, but them some folks complained their baby developed some serious neck/shoulder problems. I was a bit scared after reading that.

i'm with @mrs. yoyo - added the rock n play to my registry:

http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Snugabunny-Deluxe-Lightweight-Sleeper/dp/B005IWM73S/ref=br_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1I2NJO3U9OE5A&colid=2YITVEI3A003I

i do have crib in mind too - the sorelle sophia. but i also have a pack n play, but wasn't planning to use the bassinet portion of it for nighttime sleep. we're also thinking of returning the pack n play.

you definitely need a crib, so if you have to choose, i'd choose the crib. there was a thread about using crib from day 1. sounds like lots of people do it.

We had a PnP with the accompanying bassinet and LO was fine. She was swaddled tightly so it really didn't matter. At 3.5 months we moved her to her crib.

we never used our pack n play at home, but it was great for travel and grandma's. so if you're thinking you'll only use it in the first couple of months in your room and not as a playard as well, you could go with a bassinet instead or the rock n play like mrs yoyo suggested.

Have you considered the Fisher Price Rock n Play instead of a PNP? Most babies love it.

Our LO won't sleep in the pnp once she outgrew the bassinet. Maybe if we got a better mattress for the bottom part but she prefers the crib.

We have a pack n play at my in laws that we use every weekend. We are usually there Fri-sun most weekends, so ds uses it a lot. we have a second one to use at home and when we travel. I do think the mattress sags a little bit in the middle, but it never affected ds. I love our pack n play and ds sleeps well in it.

My LO didn't like the PnP (maybe because the mattress was uncomfortable?) so we ended up borrowing a basinette which he loved. A lot of moms love the pack n play though. It just didn't go well with my LO.

I feel like a lot of people have their LO's in a pack n play. We went the bassinet route and I was happy with it. I used it a lot in the first month and a half (I know that's not a long time, but we'll hopefully be getting use out of it for another baby too) and always pulled it out in the living room so she could be in my sight while she napped.

It's just for a few months, right? If you plan on using the pnp as just a bassinet for a few months, I'd say use it but move your LO to a crib after that. Then, you'll have the pnp for other uses later!

I'm so torn. I have no idea what to do. Many of the books I've read inc Baby Bargains said don't get a bassinet but instead buy a Pack n Play with bassinet. I got my pnp recently, but the mattress that comes with the bassinet seems very thin and unsupportive. I don't see how a newborn will be comfy when their bed is basically a hammock.

No idea what's best. Return it and buy a crib? Please chime in.
