@PurplePumps: @agold: My first was tough. I didn’t really know what i was doing. He was in our room in his crib the first 6 months and would wake up constantly. I BF and just wanted to sleep so started to put him in the bed with us. Bad idea for us! So that’s why I just want to start “ good habits” asap with LO2.

DS1 was in a PNP in our room until 6 months and he went to a crib in his own bed I’m fine. With DD2 we are in a different house and we put his crib in our room. He moved to his own room at 5 months no problem.

I think you need to do what is right for your family. If that means putting them in their own room early then do it.

@agold: omg, holding her all night sounds awful! How did you function! Yeah, DS was waking up every 5-45 minutes and needing help to fall back asleep from the time he went to bed around 6-7pm till his first feeding at 10pm in his pnp. So we let him sleep in our bed, even without us there, he'd finally sleep 1.5-2 hrs or so. And I'd just nurse every time cause that'd make him go right back to sleep. He's going down a lot easier now than the first 3 days, and crying less during wake ups, even though the wake ups can still be plenty... I'm hopeful that it shouldn't be too much longer until he just wakes for his 2 feeds - one when I go to bed and just one overnight.

@PurplePumps: I'm so sorry you are having a tough time! My second baby hit a terrible sleep issue at about 4 months old. She wouldn't let me put her down after waking up about 30 minutes after the initial put down. So I honestly held her all night while semi sitting up in bed for nearly TWO months. It was insanity. I put her in her crib at 6 months and had to sleep train because she wouldn't let me put her down. I did the cry it out method. I still went to her when she woke up after a couple hours of sleeping because I assumed she hungry. But the CIO for being put down after fully fed and clean diaper lasted a few days. I hope you don't have too much longer with your sleep training. I know its so tough. Best of luck to you.

@SweetiePie: Wow, that had never crossed my mind... to move myself rather than baby.

As for what is good for baby or transitioning... I totally failed on that one, but my LO is an awful sleeper anywhere, but maybe that is my fault for what we did. We had him in the PNP in our room until just over 6 months. Well until around 5 months, then we co-slept for a month cause he was doing awful in it and cosleeping at least got us all some sleep. I always figured if he's going to wake, he might as well be right near me to feed/etc, and never thought he might sleep better away from me since he did better cosleepign than in the pnp right next to me. We finally moved him (cause he was still waking every 2 hrs) and started sleep training at the same time, and that hasn't been easy (only 5 nights in right now)... but once again I don't know if it was caused by sleeping arrangements or if that's just the way he would have been anyways. (I like to think the latter and that this awful sleeping wasn't *entirely*my fault, but who knows  )

@cake2017: Oh I should have mentioned - for DS2 he was in his crib in his room from day 1, but I slept on an air mattress in his room for the first couple of weeks. Since wakeups are more frequent it was easier. I didn’t BF, but it was still easier.
After 2-3 weeks I moved back to my own bed and he stayed there. Much easier to transition yourself than a baby :-)

@cake2017: I was really reluctant to use it with first baby. I heard that it would make the transition to the flat crib very difficult. But, I became desperate at some point, so we used it and the baby loved it. Then, we used it from the get go with baby #2. We really did not have problems moving them to the flat crib at 6 months.

@SweetiePie: We thought about starting her in her own room from day 1. I just know it may be easier with nursing the first few weeks if she was in our room. However, it wasn’t good for DH and I when LO1 was in there. So trying to see what the heck will be best. 😞 I actually walled you a couple of weeks about about sleep training. I’m dreading it with this one and a toddler and any tips would help!

I had both of my girls in a rock and play and then a mini pack and play next to my bed for the first six months. There was no problem moving them to the crib. Although, with second girl, I did have to do a little sleep training. But I think that would have been necessary regardless of if I kept her in my room or her own room.

For what it's worth, my pediatrician laughed at keeping them in your room. He's like, who says that!? I'm like the APA!. But he was like, nonsense, move the baby out.

I just had baby number two and I'm in the same boat. We moved him to his crib at 11 weeks (had him in a bassinet) and tho rough at first it was way better than keeping him in our room. He's been sleeping better since I cut out my afternoon cup of coffee. I EBF but he doesn't nurse much at night. The crib seems comically big but we needed to sleep separate!

Totally in camp @SweetiePie. I breastfed both LOs and they were only with me in a packnplay in our room for the first 2 weeks. My husband was having trouble sleeping so they went into their own room in a crib. They are both still fantastic sleepers. It's 100% what YOU are comfortable with. There's a huge range of what is "normal". Just thought I'd throw in my experience because it is probably "not normal". Good luck!

We did both kids in a crib in their own room from day 1.
Actually that’s a lie. My first son was in a bassinet in our room for 2 weeks. But no one was getting good sleep so we moved him to a crib in his own room.

In my opinion (my OPINION, folks) the whole keeping them in your room recommendation is a bit extreme...and it’s just that, a recommendation - not a requirement. My ped had zero issue with them going to their own room so early. It made everything so much easier - one less thing to transition. Easier to sleep train. They woke up less (didn’t hear or smell us). Easier to have a routine. We still kept our adult space.

I remember your whole transition with sleep training and moving to the crib, etc :-) Make your life easier this time around. 😂

So we had DD in an Arm's Reach Mini in our room for 6 weeks. Then, we moved the Mini into her room across the hall. A couple nights later we moved her into the crib which was very uneventful.

Hello!

Baby #2 is coming this summer and I am trying to see what would work best for us. We have a Pack n Play in our room and will have a crib for baby #2 too in a separate nursery. If I have baby sleep with us in the room for 2 months in the pack play and transition her to her crib in the her room would it be a battle? LO1 was in our room the first 6 months in his crib and it was hard as DH and I were limited. Also the sleep training seemed very difficult too.

I would like to have baby # 2 in her crib much sooner than 6 months but would prefer she sleep near me the first two months....
