For night time sleep on the go, a pack n play is the best option. Graco has a good variety available on amazon.
A rock n play is good for daytime napping and "sitting" but not for night time sleep when the baby isn't being observed

Both of my LO’s slept in the bassinet portion of the Pack n Play for the first few weeks. Then we added some sleep in the Rock n Play which they both seemed to like especially with some reflux issues. The swing was good for naps but not necessary as the Rock n Play is portable if desired.

Pack n Play is consistently used as a diaper changing station as well and we have taken it camping with us. We have used hotel cribs a few times with no issue. We travel to see grandparents most often and one set has a crib while the other has a Pack n Play so we don’t have to bring one with us.

We have a pack n play that we used in our bed until our 3rd was about six months. It came with a slight incline bassinet she used in newborn days.

For travel by car, pack n play is okay. We went to the beach when she was about 3 months and took it in the car. The hotel was super old (part of a military base...we were guests of someone) so I’m glad I did. For air travel, it’s heavy and kind of a pain. We bought a guava with our second and take it when we travel somewhere.

Another option is, I loved our Doc a Tot. I know there’s some wariness about it but we used ours for day sleeping everywhere. Its easy to drag upstairs and downstairs and she would sleep on it...on my bed during the day. We went in a big international trip at 6 months where we were in various hotels, my in-laws mountain home, etc and we just packed the Doc a tot and had her sleep on that.

We have the amazing Halo Bassinest. It swivels, the front leans down with your weight and it has vibrate, light, songs. It leans up again the bed and was the best thing ever after my csection.

I would have liked to have a co-sleeper that sidecars to the bed...that would have been the best option, but my husband would have probably gotten a lot of bad sleep that first 6 months or so.

@Umbreon: I’m in Canada, you can get rock n plays here. They don’t recommend them for sleep though. I didn’t have one for DS1 but I do for DS2. He naps in it but has just about outgrown it.

For DS1 he slept in the bassinet part of the pack n play until he moved to his crib in his room at about 6 months.

DS 2 we have his crib in our room and that is where he sleeps at night. We will move it to his room by 6 months.

DD1 was an atrocious sleeper, so we bought tons of sleep items hoping one would work. Nothing did, so we co-slept. With DD2, my favorite was the Arms Reach Mini Co-sleeper. It was attached to our bed and I loved it. We also have a pack and play, and I loved having that set up in our living area for quick diaper changes and napping when they were small. Even when we’re done having babies I’ll probably keep the pack and play because it comes in handy when friends with little kids are over.

Our swing was also a lifesaver for our first. It was the only place we could get her to nap for months!

@LadyDi: wow that's crazy!! I hope that doesnt happen to us. This is good to know though. I will probably email them a few days before we leave just to make sure.

@Umbreon: We used the little Cuddle Cove attachment that used to come on the top of Pack n Plays. I don't think they even make it anymore but it was perfect b/c it wasn't angled like a Rock N Play and thus I think safer/ meant for sleep. Then we used the Chicco Travel Bassinet for months. They worked great (not like my kid slept longer than 3 hours until he was 3 months old).

We loved the automatic rock-n-play for both babies until they could roll over (4-5ish months). I know the recommendation is for babies to lay flat for best breathing, but.... laying flat for us meant wakings every 2ish hours and the RnP gave us chunks of 4-6 hour sleep so....

We used a bassinet in a stand for overnight sleep until about 9/10 weeks. We had the uppababy vista which came with a bassinet (so would be good for car travel but I wouldn't fly with it) and we got an inexpensive stand from buy buy baby. We also used the standard pack and play with the "bassinet" feature (basically the cheapest version) -- we had one at our house and one at my ILs so we didn't need to take it there.

I had a rock and play and swing but those were more for a place to put baby down while awake - occasionally naps happened in them, but not regularly.

We tried to sleep flat first, with DS1 in a bassinet and DS2 in a pack n play but neither were big fans of that so we used a rock n play for a couple of months then transitioned to a crib. I consider a rock n play a lifesaver and I recommend it to anyone who will listen. When we travel we use a graco pack n play and it's been fine! We also have a pack n play set up in our dining room for diaper changes and other newborn stuff to keep on the first floor and I love having it as a baby command center, especially when I am trying to limit my stair use when we first get home.

Just one word about hotels, you probably are already aware of this but the pack n plays or cribs at hotels are usually first come first serve. Recently we went to a hotel, I had called ahead of time and they told me they made a note in my reservation that I needed a pack n play but when we arrived for check in they didnt have one and refused to find me one. We literally had no where for the baby to sleep and they told me to co-sleep. DH went to walmart at 10 o clock at night and bought one. Anyway, I am just rambling now but I won't ever count on a hotel to have one available ever again. It's the first time we've had that issue in 4 years.

I wanted my kids to sleep on a flat surface- like a bassinet- from the start, but my kids did not. So we used a rock and play for sleep for the first few months then transitioned to a flat surface- crib for my first, pack and play for the second since she was in our room much longer. My pediatricians knew they slept in the rock and play and had no objections so I felt ok with it. But if they would have slept flat o would have done that.

We have the regular basic graco pack and play. It’s too big for air travel but is fine in the car and has suited our needs just fine. I didn’t get any special features, just the “bassinet” which is just a raised flat surface. My very petite 3 year old has just outgrown it so between her sister and her we used it for over 5 years.

I did the exact same as @mdf106. It worked well for both my kids and I got my pack and plays on sale, just the standard ones with bassinet level option.

ETA: all I had was a crib, pack and play, swing, and bouncer/vibraty chair.

I was totally happy with the cheap Graco Pack n Play (with the bassinet, which is really just a raised flat surface, but not any extra features) for car travel. For plane travel, I would use the hotel's, and I bought another cheap Pack n Play for my parents' house. Two cheap Pack n Plays is so much cheaper than one easier to travel with Pack n Play.

We move the crib into our room for the first 6 or so months, but if we hadn't had the room we would have used the pack n play. I prefer a flat place for night sleep. I did use a swing or bouncer, as well as the pack n play, for monitored daytime sleep.

We had a Bassinest for everyday sleep - we bought it on Kijiji, used it for four months, and then sold it on Kijiji for the same price we bought it for. It was great.

For travel we bought a pack and play with a portable lounger and bassinet. The only part of it that really got any use was the portable lounger, but we did use it occasionally.

When we travelled we always just got a crib at the hotel.

Rock and Plays aren't legal in Canada, so that was never an option for us.

https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Trend-Resort-Nursery-Center/dp/B073JYK4JT?th=1

This is what we got for baby to sleep in. As a newborn, she started in the bassinet, then moved to the top part of the packnplay around 2mo, then to the full packnplay until she was almost a year!

Having her sleep in the bassinet made the transition to the packnplay easy, because she was already used to sleeping on a flat surface. The bassinet is light and portable, and so is the packnplay, so traveling with her own crib was great.

We also got this swing: https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Soothing-System-Glider-Abbington/dp/B00Y286NXY/ref=sr_1_5_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1546456496&sr=1-5&keywords=graco+glider
Its a swing and a bouncy seat. Baby slept in this sometimes for naps, and a few times when she was congested and we needed her a little upright. I would consider this over a rocknplay!

As you can see, we were very into multi-use baby items, so I hope this helps. I got most of my recommendations from Lucieslist.com which is great for all kinds of baby-stuff reviews!

The rock and play is not technically designed for sleep. We used it for the first couple weeks- but I feel like I saw something about the angle possibly restricting airflow? So obviously a judgment call on that one-DD rolled in the swaddle just by a bit and we stopped using it right away.

My sister gave me the larger version of this crib. I will get this size next time around https://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/nuna-sena-mini-aire-travel-crib/4565819?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=night

Hello, I need a bit of help on what we should get. Im due with our first baby in april.

We need something for the baby to sleep in by our bed for the first few months.

We do some traveling in the summer for the weekends. I'm not sure how much we will this year but we will need something for the baby to sleep in, that we can pack in the car.

We have to travel by plane in September for a wedding. It might be best to use the hotels supplies but I thought I'd mention it.

What is our best option? Any particular brands?
