We are driving about 7 hours with a hotel stay to break up the drive. We only bring the necessities but it is still a lot of stuff. The car will be full with my hubs, me, the dog, the LO, and all of our stuff. It will be interesting!

I did the same thing as Livsmama for an upcoming trip to Grandma's in December. I ordered ahead some food I know he likes, some pajamas, new books and toiletries. My mom will get the diapers and we've got his whole bath/crib gear thing set up there. The real PITA in flying is the stroller and car seat!

@artbee: Yeah I was terrified since shes just 4 months old. It was just me and DH. She did shockingly well, no crying, but lugging everything through the airport was difficult. =o)

@LivsMama: I couldn't imagine flying! I don't think we'll be attempting that until my LO is one for my sister's wedding. And I'm making my parents take the same flight :)

Oh man, we just flew to the In Laws for 4 days this past weekend and Liv had her own gigantic suitcase. I ordered diapers and some stuff from diapers.com and had those sent directly there, but we brought certain toys, outfits, blankets, car seat, basically the whole medicine chest, bath stuff...its amazing how much stuff such a little person needs.

@Rosie Girl: My parents have a pack n play.. but they only have one set of sheets. So I feel like I have to bring more in case she spits up all over them at bed time and we need a quick change. Things like this I feel like I'm overly paranoid about! I'm not worrying about toys though. My mom has plenty, but I'm sure she'll be plenty entertained by the insane amount of people there.

@Msmamabear: I hate that feeling that I forgot something! My hubby says we're so close to home, but I know he'll be complaining if I send him back at 10 tomorrow night!

@Looch: That's a good rule. I only had one pj's in there. I would have been in trouble if she pee'd them!

@lovelife: I know! We have my hubby driving, dog shot gun, me in the back with the baby, and the stroller takes up the whole trunk. Where does everything else go? We've already decided the next baby comes with a mini van

@Rubies: yes only one night! We use cloth diapers so I bring them. If we go away for a weekend we'll take disposable but not one night. And I'm even bringing the bag of dirty diapers to do a wash there!

I go overnight to my MILs regularly, we keep diapers and wipes there. I bring two complete changes of clothing, two pajamas, one sleepsack, two onesies, 2 pairs of socks. The general rule I use (and find it to work) is to bring outifts and pajamas for the number of days plus one extra. I bring my diaper bag with the clothes and a separate bag for food and bottles that I keep downstairs.

I had this problem too! We're at my mom's already and I packed a separate bag for her. I leave a pack of diapers, wipes for her just in case, but we use cloth their too. It's mostly "just in case" things we have. I STILL feel like we left something!LOL

I think as you pack more (travel more) you will figure out how to pack less. The first trip I took with my DS, I had a suitcase just for him! What things do your parents have at their house that you don't need to duplicate? Diapers, wipes, toys? You can always wash an outfit if there is a major accident, so you don't need to bring many clothes. Since they are so close, and its only 1 night, you don't need too much :)

We've traveled a little bit since baby was born and every time we pack I feel like we bring the whole house too... and our house is a disaster by the time we leave. Usually because I'm running around like a crazy person trying to make sure I have everything we might need! We've even decided to get an SUV, because we can't fit everything into our car, which is sad because we are only a family of 3!. I think when we decided to have another baby we will have to invest in a bus! :)

How long are you staying? Just one night? Both my parents and in-laws live 20 minutes from us and we keep a package of diapers and wipes at their homes so we don't have to worry about those. In terms of clothing? Well, 3 onesies, socks, 2 bottoms, pjs, and a sweater? I don't know, I'm just thinking off the cuff right now imagining what I would pack if I were sleeping over my parents' house for a night.

I'm starting to pack for my LO for thanksgiving and I feel like I'm taking the whole house! The funny thing is... we're only going 10 minutes away! My parents live close by, but the roads are closed by them the morning of Thanksgiving for a Turkey Trot race so if we want to park at their house for the race we have to spend the night.

Still, I feel like I need to bring EVERYTHING! I'd rather have it all just in case. Am I the only one, or is there a secret to packing light with a baby that I don't know about?
