Both! RnP was great for sleeping at night and reflux. PnP is great for traveling still at 17 months.

We had both. I have gotten a LOT more use out of the PnP. We used it as a downstairs changing station / napping spot in the early days. Then we changed it to a playpen at about 6 months which she loved. We also use it frequently as a travel crib although she is not a huge fan.

We used the RnP for the first 3 months & I will say that those things are like Xanax for babies. She slept SO well in it, and she was a fussy newborn. It's nice that they are so portable too.

If you are registering I would register for both and if you don't get both, maybe get just the PnP? It doesn't seem that folks without the RnP miss it too much & it is hard to wean from.

The r'n'p was our number one newborn item. M slept in it for literally 5 months (she was tiny) first next to our bed and then in her own room when she still seemed too little for the crib. I would sit on the floor or in the bed and rock her forever until she fell asleep for the first few months, and not have to worry about transferring her to a basinet after she was sleepy or sleeping. It was really a miracle for us. We used to travel with the r'n'p before she transitioned to the crib. I even had it next to be at the Christmas dinner table so I could rock her and soothe her and still eat myself. We didn't have any problems at all with the transition to the crib. We've already got the rock'n'play out and ready for baby #2.

We also registered for a pack'n'play and still use it frequently as a travel crib at almost 2 years old. I'm really glad that we had both.

Loved having the flexibility of both even in our small apartment. The RnP folds so compactly and is easy to transport between rooms. We have stashed it away for maybe baby #2, but I am so so glad we had both.

Gah, my response disappeared!

We have, use, and love the RnP. LO's crib is in our room, but she sleeps in the RnP due to her reflux. We do not have a PnP but will likely get a travel crib soon. We need something lightweight for air travel.

Have you considered.something like this ?

We have both and they have served different purposes for us.

RnP - She did all her night sleeping in this until she was around 4 months. It was convenient b/c it was so small and fit next to our bed.

PnP - We put her in it if we need to keep her contained for a couple minutes (it's basically permanently open in our living room) and she has also slept in it on vacation. She wouldn't sleep in it until she got used to sleeping flat in her crib though.

I have both, but we got a lot more use out of the PnP. I got the RnP because I read on here what a life saver they are and how so many babies love them. Well, my DS didn't get that memo, lol. The first few weeks he refused to be put down, including in the RnP.

We ended up co-sleeping a lot and then later I used the PnP next to our bed. It took a lot of effort to get him to sleep independently, so I figured he was already used to lying flat from being in our bed, and I didn't want to have to deal with getting him used to the RnP only to have to transition to the crib later.

We did get some use out of the RnP eventually for naps in the living room (he didn't nap in his crib for a long time). We probably could've done without it, but every baby is different :).

I wound up with both. I liked the rock and play for the time I could use it, it is smallery, easier to transport, no packing etc... but you get a lot more life out of a pack and play. We are using our pack and play as a crib / playpen when we travel now at 15 months which is impossible for the rock and play. I vote both, but if you have a budget thing or don't like items taking up space go pack and play.

We never had a RNP and didn't miss it. We have a PNP and love it. I used it when I wanted Xander to get used to sleeping in a crib, but still near me before he started daycare. And now we use it whenever we go somewhere and he'll need to nap/sleep for the night. It's so convenient to have!

We had both, and used the RNP way more than the PNP. We do use the PNP now that she's older for traveling. But for us (she had reflux bad) the RNP was priceless, the elevation gave her some relief and we had no issues transitioning to her crib at 10 weeks.

We had a PNP, no RNP. She slept in the PNP next to our bed for the first 4 months and we've used it several times while traveling. It also made the transition to the crib seamless because she was used to sleeping on a flat surface.

ETA: If our LO had had reflux or trouble sleeping flat I definitely would've tried the RNP. So that's what I recommend: starting out with the PNP and if your LO has trouble sleeping flat you can always run out and get a RNP. But if your LO will sleep flat (in a PNP or bassinet) you may save yourself some headaches down the line by not even introducing the RNP.

I loved the PNP. we have the standard sized one and a bigger one (Graco TotBlock). we didn't rely on it, but it was FANTASTIC to keep her separated from the dog, give her some independent play time, or allow her to veg and watch some mickey while I caught a cat nap next to her on the couch, lol!

We have both. He sleeps in the RNP next to our bed. We use the PNP in our living room. He rolls around play in there or on the floor. We have a dog so I like having the baby in the PNP if I am doing something. He does take naps in his crib so hopefully our transition to the crib will be easy. We don't have a swing or bouncer. LO is 4 months old.

we loved the RNP and never had a PNP, but my parents have one for visits there, so we were covered on that too. we brought the RNP for visits elsewhere, and it worked great. That said, she outgrew the RNP earlier than she'd probably have outgrown the PNP (for playtime at least). she slept overnight in a bassinet early on though.

My LO was a preemie, and he slept in the RnP for the first 14 weeks (until he could intentionally roll over), next to our bed. Then we transitioned him to a PnP in our room, and then when he was about 10 months old, we transitioned him into his crib in his own room. We love both the RnP and PnP for different reasons. The RnP was awesome to have him next to the bed, and my husband could rock him in his sleep (how DH kept it rocking while he was asleep I'll never know). The PnP was great when he was bigger and we still wanted him in our room (for night nursing since he woke up so much, and the nursery would have been on a different floor, so it was easier for me to keep him in with us).

I vote pack-n-play because it can be used for longer. I have one with the newborn napper which she used for 3 months, then slept in the bassinet part for about 2 months, and then slept in the bottom until we moved her to her own room at 9 months. We still use it for travel and as a playpen to contain her while we shower etc. (14 months now)

I might be in the minority here because I didn't like the RnP, but I loooove our PnP. LO has slept in it from birth and I think that it is awesome because it is similar in size to the crib and is flat like the crib so I think that transitioning her to her crib is going to be a breeze when I'm ready to do that (and she's already taken a few naps in her crib just fine). Plus I was worried about flat spots with the RnP, and I also never felt like she was super safe sleeping for long periods in it because her chin would fall down (although I know tons of people do it, it just freaked me out the 1 week we had to do it because she had a cold).

I originally wanted a pack n play next to our bed for the first few weeks/months (however this sleeping thing will end up working out!), and then using it as a play pen, for going to grandma's, etc.

But then I started to think I can also use the rock n play next to our bed since that's all she'll really be using it for. I'd already have other options like bouncer/swing in the living room. But then would I be missing out on the functions of a pack n play? Should I just do both?!
