@swedishfish: I had three fillings done at once one time, and had to hold my mouth open for about an hour. My jaw was so sore for a week afterwards. I would chalk it up to holding your mouth open and pop some ibuprofen. If the pain doesn't get better over the next two days, I 'd call back.

@swedishfish: we really need to start charging rates for all this non-medical, anecdotel advice we offer here. I'm sure it's worth $omething!

Honestly, every time I've gotten a filing, my jaw and mouth have always been partially numb/sore for awhile afterwards :( It sucks but I think you can use Motrin, no? I can't remember how long it is sore fore but it shouldn't be too long. I think seeing as you got it done Monday, i'd give it until Friday, but i'd def take some pain killers until then!

@swedishfish: I once had this happen! I suffered through it for a week then finally called my dentist. He said that the filling probably had an air pocket in it and that he would replace it for free. Once he fixed it I had relief immediately.

I had a filling on the left bottom side of my mouth replaced on Monday without novocaine. As soon as I left the dentist's office the left side of my mouth was slightly numb and swollen. I called the office and the dentist told me he didn't know what it could be from. I chalked it up to holding my mouth open really wide for 15 minutes straight. The numbness was gone within an hour and the swelling was gone yesterday morning.

Yesterday and today that side of my mouth has been sore. I'm thinking it's probably also from holding my mouth open but I'll call the dentist tomorrow if it doesn't go away. Has anyone else had this happen? What do you suggest?
