@beloved: I just changed my mind after putting him down tonight (I swear going to the doctor is the thing I'm most indecisive about.). I finally got my oversupply under control and then held him upright for a couple minutes and he didn't make the sound. So now I'm going to wait until the effects of the oversupply have worn off and if it's still happening, take him in. Otherwise, I will probably wait until our 2-month appointment

Thanks everyone for all the info!

@Jess1483: no he didn't spit up a lot. But that could also be reflux related. It sounds like it to me !

@beloved: did you have a lot of spitting up during the day as well? I feel like any time LO eats a meal without a break, he spits up 1-1.5 ounces.

@beloved: Possible. He doesn't have any other signs. I'd call him a "happy spitter." I don't know much about silent reflux. Is it something you'd make an appointment for? We have his 2-month in two weeks--would you just wait?

Could it be a form of silent reflux ? My LO had this and he would just gasp a little.

Hmm... they sound a little strange... My youngest would make weird noises as he fell asleep that sounded kind of like gasping for breath, hiccups, and crying out/whimpering. It didn't sound exactly like you LO's, but similar...

It sorta just sounds like his body is falling into deeper sleep and he's twitching or jerking a little bit but since he mouth breaths it's making sounds.

I'm right next to him (his crib is in my room). He is wiggling around a bit and settling, he is swaddled, but again, he is for naps and all night and this is the only time he makes the sound.

Do you have a video monitor? curious what he is doing when making those sounds

they are strange - kinda like crying, kinda like a hiccup

My 7 week-old has been making a strange noise at night when he goes to sleep. I've called the ped and they said I can make a sick visit appointment, but I'm not sure I'm at that point. I've talked to a lactation consultant (actually two), and both said it doesn't sound like reflux (which is what the ped's nurse suggested.)

He only makes this sound when he first goes down at night (not for naps, not when he's fed in the middle of the night.) I do burp him, although not for a really long time. Sometimes he will make this noise off and on for 20 minutes, other times much less. He is not upset. To me, it seems like he is struggling a bit for air. He doesn't make this sound any other time of day.

Am I being a nervous nelly, or would you take him in?

Let's see if this video works...
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_wuF_FMUgvA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

ETA: There's a white noise machine on. I tried to record it without the noise, but then he wakes up ;)
