@bhbee: thank you! My husband is taking her in to get checked again. They checked her Monday and strep turned up negative, but given that the fever is still lingering, I feel like there might be something hanging around, like a possible sinus infection.

We’ve had the on and off fever (not always super high) - seeming fine and then not fine - a couple times in the past month. Both ended to being (probably recurrent) strep. I’m also guilty of thinking it was over and being wrong! There was a day she felt cool in the morning, acted normal, then all the sudden we were driving to the airport to drop someone and she fell asleep. We stopped to eat and she threw up and by the time we went to urgent care a bit later it was 103.5

Anyway I think it can be normal but they told me anytime you think it’s gone and it comes back you should worry about infections. Sometimes they don’t have strong symptoms. Definitely check and see how the throat looks, strep is supposed to be rampant this year, but it’s not always obvious. Good luck and hope she feels better soon!

My son had a low fever and the same symptoms as your dd for a week. He felt cool but his fever was just barely there and usually just in the evenings.

So it does sound like she's still just kicking a virus. My kids get fevers on and off sometimes with viruses. It is so frustrating especially when one gets it for a week and then the other for the other week (and now we have a third.)

*Usually* though they follow a pattern of spiking either in the afternoon or evening around the same time every day, so rising to about the same temp around the same time daily. One time dd spiked 104 in the middle of the day after not quite kicking a virus and it turned out she had pneumonia. So I tend to be a little over cautious but since her temp had gone up to 101 and it was lower before and since tomorrow is a Friday, if your ped's office isn't open for Saturday appointments I would call and see if they think you should bring her in tomorrow. I'd see how she is in the morning first but any fever I'd call tomorrow. Not sure if you're working or what tomorrow but I'd just relay that to anyone else with her. And I would keep her home.

My 4.5 year old came down with what seems like a virus. On Sunday afternoon she spiked a low grade fever (100.4), and crashed asleep at 6 PM. Monday-Tuesday was much of the same- fever held still, she felt warm, tired, and some nasal congestion and a mucusy cough set in. Went to the doc to check for any infections, all was clear.

Yesterday (Wednesday) she had more energy, and she seemed fever free all day (she started feeling cool Tuesday before bed). Today I decided to keep her home just to give her an extra day, even though our PreK-rule is 24 hours fever free. She was still asleep at 9 am (very unusual for her), so I woke her. She asked to go to her favorite play center, which I took as a good sign, but she seemed like she was still dragging a little, though she felt cool. She played for a couple hours, seemed to have decent energy. We got home after having lunch and running an errand and she crashed with a 101 fever. Slept for nearly 3 hours and woke up cool again.

Just out of curiosity, I took her temp and on 3 different thermometers it registered 100.3, even though she felt completely cool to touch (head, body, everywhere). Tried it again before she went to bed, same thing. I’ve never seen this before, so now I’m wondering if this is normal or a sign of something I should take her to the doc for? I also feel like a major jerk because I probably took her out with a fever, thinking she’s been fever free for over 36 hours because she was cool to touch.

Any ideas?
