@edelweiss: That's what I was thinking too, but then she doesn't need to actually go. Poop is a bit of a battle for us anyway because she struggles with it - I'm not sure if she holds it on purpose for a few days and then it becomes harder to get out or if she's just built that way - so I do suspect that but usually I see her starting to struggle to poop when she says she's hurting and that's not been the case here.

@Mamaof2: I'm not sure what they do with her at daycare but at home she wipes under our supervision. For a while she was being very aggressive about it and I thought maybe she rubbed herself raw, so I showed her how to pat instead. She hasn't wiped for poop at all, and has only pooped once since she moved to underwear.

@kiddosc: I thought that too but I don't see any signs of one. I'm giving her an anti fungal lotion before bedtime and in the morning just in case but there aren't any physical symptoms to suggest one.

If she's on antibiotics, is it possible she has a yeast infection?

@Mrs. Carrot: are you wiping her or is she? If she is I would suspect she isn't wiping well - we went commando at bedtime and it cleared up!

eta: we did get a UTI analysis just to be sure and it was negative - Ped says she see this all the time in newly trained girls

i'm wondering if she's saying it hurts when she feels like she needs to pee (the crossing legs made me think of that)? needing to poop might be it, like you mentioned. i imagine there are new sensations and she's getting used to them--i hope it isn't an infection!

My almost 3 year old, after months of not caring at all about the potty, suddenly asked for underwear on Saturday. We're on day 6 now of her in underwear, and except one accident last night (she seemed tired and distracted by Barney at dinner), she's been in underwear just fine. However, she keeps complaining that "her butt hurts" but points to her vagina. I don't see any signs of a UTI, redness or scratching (and ironically she's on antibiotics for an ear infection so a UTI is pretty unlikely in that regard anyway, I think). She isn't struggling to poop, though that is an issue for her generally and it might be that? (she usually only poops a few times a week and struggles through it). Any other ideas? She was crossing her legs last night, which is pretty unusual, but seems to be peeing fine. Could the antibiotics be causing a problem? She's almost at the end of the course, and just started complaining about this the day before yesterday.
