I had this and it sort of came and went but by the last month or so of my pregnancy, that area just went completely numb. My midwife said it was a combo of stretching ribs and skin, and baby pressing on nerves. Hope it goes away for you!

I had this and it went away after the second tri! I was barely showing at the time so I think it was the ribs expanding. It sucked!! I hope it goes away soon for you!

@Rockies11: @septca: Same. 8 months out and my ribs are never going back.

I had a similar issue, to the point that my skin was very thin and itchy/painful in that spot. I got some cream from my midwife and it helped, but once she dropped it went away. She pretty much hung out in the same position throughout my entire third trimester.

@littlebit blah -- totally sucks. I blamed my crappy desk chair since I feel so much better when I'm walking around but its just my giant baby boy crushing my internal organs... Maybe once they start to drop in prep for delivery it will be better?

I had this from 23-27 weeks and luckily it went away! So painful! I think it's just the ribs stretching/growing to make room for baby.

@Rockies11: that's the worst part!!! I'm 16 months pp and my rib cage is never going back... :crying:

@Littlebit: If heat doesn't work, you can also try ice. Or a switch-off. I forget which oils are safe for pregnancy, but rubbing a few drops of something like menthol or tea tree oil on your rib area could also really help. Again, I am SO sorry you have to deal with this!

@MamaMoose: This is what's happening to me. His feet are under my rib cage and causing a lot of discomfort. It feels like I constantly need to sit up straight.

@septca: Ugh, my biggest fear is that this lasts the remainder of the pregnancy! I can't believe she cracked your rib  I do feel a little better knowing I can stop wasting money on what I thought the problem was (too tight bras/pants). I've stopped wearing under wire, and purchased some Coobie bras I saw recommended on here...hopefully they come in soon! I rip my bra off the second I get in the car on the way home from work...and I also unhook my bra while sitting at my desk. It helps, but the pain is still there. I'll try a heating pad tonight!

@psw27: :/ It sucks doesn't it!? I'm kind of relieved to hear I'm not the only one going through it, but I wish neither of us were. I'm so uncomfortable by the end of the day.

@MamaMoose: I have no idea! I'm feeling him move much lower, but I guess it could be something jammed up in there! I just realized I could push on my stomach and actually feel him the other day, but I haven't been able to differentiate what it is I'm feeling yet. When I push on the spot that hurts it almost feels bruised, though there isn't a bruise!

Is it a foot? My good friend had her daughters foot wedged up in her left rib and it hurt her for the majority of her pregnancy and a few months after delivery!

I'm 26 weeks tomorrow and having rib pain as well. I thought maybe it was how I was sitting at work or my bras - but I think its because when I sit, LO ones move up and smashes everything upwards so my ribs expand. I feel your pain

Last week I went to prenatal yoga and felt better after, could you try that?

It's a combination of your ribs stretching and nerve damage. :crying: If you are still wearing underwire, stop. That will help a little. Going braless in the evenings also helps. So does a heating pad.

I am SOOOOOO sorry you are dealing with this. I carried DD really high and had this starting at about 20 weeks. It was horrible - and ended up cracking my ribs later in the game - by far the worst thing about my pregnancy. :bummed: The good news is that it went away as soon as she dropped, although I still have a couple areas of numbness from the nerve damage.

I just hit 25 weeks today but for the past few weeks the area under my breasts/top of my stomach has been SO sore! I've tried everything, buying new bras, buying pants with low panels - and yet the pain still shows up every day in the afternoon. I'm so uncomfortable!

I'm wondering if anyone else is going through this? It almost feels like the top of my ribs. I'm wondering if it's just my ribs stretching/expanding? And if it is, is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable? It stops hurting while I'm stretching or laying down. Didn't know if there was anything I could do besides that.

I'M SO UNCOMFORTABLE :bummed: I'm really hoping this is a short lived symptom.
