@Mrs.Pinecone316: Triple paste, then Aquaphor. I feel like I finally mastered it without making a mess. I give him a paci he doesn't wiggle around and I can apply it with one finger (since his butt is so tiny!).

Poor guy! I agree- no wipes, just soft paper towel and warm water. For airing out we used to lay her on a puppy wee wee pad- we have some cute photos of that. :)

Even now at 22 months, pampers sensitive wipes give C a rash- even if I just used them on her hands or face she gets irritated. And when she was tiny pampers baby dry gave her a rash but now we use them no problem. Just throwing that out there in case you are using any of the same brands.

As much diaper free time as possible.

Soft wipes, like thin baby wash cloths or cloth wipes with water only

We had to use the calmoceptine mentioned above with my oldest. It was per the advice of our pediatrician and worked almost immediately.

I would also probably take him to the doctor just to make sure there wasn't something I was missing, especially with him being so little, being in so much pain and this being his first rash.

This is what works for us:
Using a washcloth and warm water with baking soda at diaper changes. Let dry completely. Then layer of coconut oil and then thick layer of desitin rapid relief.

As much diaper free time as possible!

Bath in warm water with baking soda as well.

No-pants party. DD had very sensitive skin and developed stubborn eczema on her pubic area. Just buy a bunch of chux pads or cloth diapers and let the rash air out. It'll heal so much faster.

Also when he gets dirty, wash him with water in the sink instead of wiping. The extra friction will damage.

When DS was tiny he had a yeast rash. The ped had us use cloth wipes and A&D ointment. The A&D helps to protect skin from contact with poop and makes wiping easier. The cloth wipes are also gentler.

Great tips everyone! I've tried the lotrimin the last few times I changed him, so I'll stick with it. I'm going to try wiping his bum with water only and allowing more time to let it dry. Bath time is soon, so I'm going to use a little baking soda again and no soap on the bottom.

DD had very bad diaper rash in the beginning. We stopped using wipes and used cotton wool in warm water, then dabbed her bum dry with a baby washcloth after. Our dr said to use a zinc oxide cream with Vaseline on the top after every change. Ultimately she needed a prescribed cream to shift it but that routine definitely helped to keep it at bay.

Avoid using diaper wipes right now, that can make it worse. If you have just a squirt bottle you can squeeze water on it. I found that my favorite diaper rash cream is by Burts Bees. It is all natural and it is thicker and does a better barrier than the zinc or other ones I tried that seem to wipe off as soon as the diaper touches is.

My LO had a lot of bad diaper rashes in the beginning--they just poop so often that it's hard to avoid the skin coming in contact with the poop. I would make sure his bottom is completely dry before a new diaper goes on, and I would do triple paste with aquaphor on top. It will clear up eventually! If wipes hurt him, try just a wet paper towel or piece of cloth.

We went through this and it was a reaction to the brand of diapers in was using. We switched to pampers swaddlers. I used damp warm washcloths to wipe him and a blow-dry error on low to dry everything out. And let him do a lot of tummy time sans diaper. We also used a lot of aquaphor and it cleared up over time.

It might also be worth having the doctor check and make sure it's not a yeast infection to be safe. Hope the little guy heals quickly!

My 3 week old son has a small but very painful rash on his bottom. It appeared overnight for the first time, so I started putting a zinc oxide cream on it and trying to change his diaper as often as possible. The poor little guy is in so much pain that he screams when I wipe him and apply the cream. I tried a short baking soda and lukewarm water soak earlier, which didn't seem to do anything. If anything, the rash looks a bit worse now than earlier, like the skin is raw. Poor little peanut screams his head off every time I change him :crying:

Any suggestions? My mom said Vaseline, but I'm not a big fan of petroleum jelly. I'll do it if it works though. I'm also trying to make sure the area is dry before I put a new diaper on, but even blotting with a tissue hurts him.
