@coruscations: I have the Mirena IUD and it has not been the best experience for me...I had spotting for a long time (months and months) and there was also the painful sex...also lasting for months and months. Honestly, it was uncomfortable for 5-6 months after the IUD...but now things are FINALLY back to normal (no more spotting and no more painful sex)

@sandy: Oh no! I'm planning to get an IUD too, after this pain gets better. How long was it painful with the IUD? What kind did you get?

It was painful for me too despite having a c-section ...it slowly got better and by 3-4 months it wasn't painful at all anymore...but then I had an IUD put it and sex became painful/uncomfortable again...that took even longer to get back to pain-free...but finally I feel normal again!

Thought I would update since I just saw my midwife today and asked about this. He said this much pain is unusual after a c-section, especially since the pain in the entire length of the vagina and not just at the opening or the cervix. He told me to do perineal massage and if it doesn't get better in a few weeks I should make another appointment. He did do an exam and said everything looks perfectly normal down there. But OMG the exam hurt so much I cried afterward.

It was really really painful the first few times.... and I didn't expect it either for the exact same reason. But, it does get better :)

It was painful the first time for me too. We waited a couple of weeks and it was better the second time. Probably around 3 months pp, it was back to normal.

Are you breastfeeding? I had the same experience, even with lubrication, and attributed it to dryness from breastfeeding. I recall this being mentioned in my breastfeeding classes. I never asked my doctor though. It does get better, even if you continue breastfeeding. I can't remember when exactly.

At 11 weeks postpartum sex was still bit painful from my csection. I asked my midwife about it and she said that there could still be bruising or inflammation which is causing pain. She told me that if it isn't better in 3-4 weeks to go see my doctor. We haven't had sex since then as the twins got their 2 month shots on friday and have been a handful. I'm at 12 weeks pp right now. I sure hope it gets better soon!

I had a c-section 7 weeks ago and just tried having sex again a few days ago. OMG it was so painful! We tried really slowly with lots of lube, and DH could only get about halfway in before I just couldn't take it anymore. I was not expecting anything like this, because my vagina wasn't involved in giving birth and I feel completely fine down there otherwise. I'm so bummed! Has anyone else experienced this? Please tell me it gets better!
