I would definitely get the samples ($5 each) and try them on the wall first.. they will look different in different lighting.. So it is good if you can sample a bit on each wall with different light exposure and during different times of the day.

@matador84: if you can, bring some part of the bedding with you to the store so you can see how the different shades look with your color scheme. You should also be able to get samples of a few different colors, which I recommend. You can paint squares of the different color options on your main focal wall and that should help you decide. The paint will look different on your wall than the chip!

@Giraffe: i am looking for blue-grays now online but they are so hard online versus in store.

the chair is amazing! it was super expensive but easily the best, most well worth purchase i made! it is a little castle custom glider from buy buy baby. we do his monthly pics in it and i have a PBK sham/pillow that i prop up next to him.

@matador84: I think @Freckles' suggestion of a light blue-grey is a great idea to tie everything together. And then maybe a different grey (darker/warmer/more brown undertones?) for the living areas? Our living room is grey (not sure of the color name, but I think of it as elephant grey) and we absolutely love it - the color really helps to create a nice relaxing space.

Unrelated: that chair looks sooo comfortable and I love the photo. It reminds me so much of some of our LO's early weekly photos!

@photojane: nope, i am soliciting advice! :-) i probably won't do stripes because i think its too much but i love the look of them.

i have never painted anything before. we have tons of trim and crown molding i wouldn't even know where to start.

@matador84: Understandable.. I would still stick with something light.

Here are some other looks that I think would go nicely with the pieces that you have:

*no rug

@matador84: I agree with @photojane: it may be a bit too much. I did the painting myself (and with the DH), and it was SO much work. My husband wanted to kill me. I really like this colour because it looks more like a neutral pale blue as opposed to a pale baby blue.

@matador84: I know you didn't ask me, but I don't think I would do contrasting stripes with the madras and striped bedding. If you like the idea of stripes you could do them more subtlety on one accent wall by using the same color but different finishes (i.e. flat & semi-gloss).

I paint myself, but I hate it. Painting is my least favorite house project!

@Freckles: i love the stripes. do you think it would be too much with madras? did you all paint yourselves or have a painter do?

i am going to look at some benjamin moore paints tomorrow, our lowe's and HD don't carry them!

@photojane i have been contemplating a light blue to bring out the cording.
@lindsayinnyc i have also been contemplating a neutral brown color too! ha! i didn't think about an accent wall and i like that idea.
@reese i love the gray, but i am thinking about doing our main living areas in gray so it might be too much. can't decide if i can take the plunge on gray in the main areas yet though.

You have some pretty dark furniture/bedding, so i would definitely go with a lighter, neutral colour.

We used Benjamin Moore's moonshine for LO's room. It's a very light blue-grey.

Here's a picture, but just note that i took this pretty late in the day!

something like this (but insert your red chair)

I think I would do a light blue - the blue that's in the piping of the chair & the lizards on the sheets. And, you won't need to repaint when he's ready for big boy room. :)

there are some seriously talented design bees and i would love nursery advice! we are moving and this will be my opportunity to do a real room for DS!

I am a little scared of paint, as I have never painted a wall or even picked out paint colors before. i am open to any other suggestions as well.

This is the bedding he has:
http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/alligator-madras-nursery-bedding/?pkey=e%7Cmadras%7C27%7Cbest%7C0%7Cviewall%7C24%7C%7C19&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

We have this crib in sun valley espresso: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/kendall-petite-fixed-gate-crib/?pkey=e%7Ckendall%2Bcrib%7C4%7Cbest%7C0%7Cviewall%7C24%7C%7C3&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

And one of my favorite pieces is the glider and ottoman...(the only pic i could find of the whole chair)
