@bakingdoodle: I’ve managed to mostly remove marker and ballpoint pen from a raw wood dollhouse using rubbing alcohol.

@bakingdoodle: if you can’t get it off, i would go a different direction and give your kid some colored markers and let her decorate

if you do decide to paint, polyurethane is food safe once its fully cured (30 days at room temp). we've used liquid watercolors to dye some unfinished wooden toys, and we seal them with polyurethane.

@DesertDreams88: @gotkimchi: so each toy has is mostly unfinished and the rest is painted and varnished (like the handle)

so if it's unvarnished... would the dry erase or alcohol trick work? it's mostly on the unvarnished... :(

Try dry erase marker on top of the permanent marker, and wipe off right away. There may be smudges left but then that rubbing alcohol trick above might work.

Has anybody attempted this? if yes, which paint and which varnish. My daughter took a black marker and drew on all her ooden pots and pans and cutlery from Hape. It's a non washable marker...
I am not very crafty but I thought that maybe I could just repaint and varnish. ==> I looked online and saw a few posts that mention kids safe low emission paint and i didn't see anything about varnishing... So was thinking maybe someboday attempted?

thanks!
