@caitcat: I agree, it works better than you'd think it would. We had to rent an apartment after selling our house before we bought a new one, and it was all beige carpet with beige walls, which is pretty much the antithesis of my style, haha. Adding rugs over the carpet was a huge game changer!

@raspberries: We did this with a large rug to cover carpet we didn't love in one of my girls' rooms, and it worked out really well. Our rug goes almost to the walls, so just a little bit of the carpet can be seen, but it's barely noticeable since there's stuff against many walls.

I'm also a person who likes bold statements in my home! I think I'd paint the walls navy, then buy an 8x10 rug in a muted pattern to cover most of it so the blue carpet only peeks out around the edge of the room. Then decorate with plants since you have natural light, and lots of bright artwork on the wall. Maybe something like one of these?

Unfortunately I don't have a photo because it was basically a library and there are books EVERYWHERE right now and you can't even see the carpet! I've attached a pic of a similar colored carpet / wall combo, though this is a berber and mine is a standard low pile.

Agree a photo would be helpful, but I think you should leave the walls white or paint a very pale cream. I'm picturing you could aim for a French Provence farmhouse blue-and-white kind of look.

Ok brilliant HB-ers, I need some design help and you always have great suggestions!

I have a small bedroom size office (roughtly 10x12') with cornflower blue carpeting. The carpet has been there since we bought the house is in great condition and very high quality so despite the fact that I HATE the color, it's staying. (no hardwood under it either). I'm transforming the room from my husband's office to my hobby room/guest room and I need to figure out a paint color to match. The walls are currently white, but I'd like to do something different. We have the same carpet in my daughter's room and we painted the walls a soft lilac and it looks great, but it's definitely a kids room color, not an office.

What would you suggest? I'm wide open to ideas. The room is pretty bright from one good sized window. FYI, I tend to like very bold statements in design!
