We still do them in the high chair (now DS's) at almost 4. She can hold still for a really long time there.

I did her toes around 3. I was really surprised how well she will sit still for it. It's actually how I clip her toenails now- I won't paint them until I clip them. She loves pedicures.

Just did them this weekend. She wanted to be like big sis. I use a sally Hansen fast drying polish. I did her fingers too, but both of my girls have the same problem as me, polish just doesn't stay on our fingers.

DD had just turned 2 when I first painted her nails. I usually use Piggy Paint because she likes to put her fingers in her mouth. I did once use regular polish on her toes since we only have 2 colors of Piggy Paint. I was surprised at how well she sat still for the painting - I put a towel under her hands/feet and told her moving would mess up the pretty pink. I've had her sit on the bathroom countertop before too, since I know that's an easy clean-up if necessary. But surprisingly she's never really made a mess (knock on wood)!

We started doing it when she started asking. I think it was around 2 years old. She knows that if she wiggles too much, we'll stop painting them. They make kid polish that dries quickly. :)

You could try doing it in a high chair like people suggested or just do one coat and use a low temp hair dryer and make it seem fun. I think my niece has had it done since 3 by my mum or my sister and even now at 6 she still sometimes isn't patient enough and messes it up. Kid's nails are so tiny though and the paint usually dries pretty fast.

I started a little before 2 with my kids. I just do it at home with Piggy Paint or my Zoya colors (low chemicals). I do it while they are standing in their learning tower coloring. I sit on the floor and their toes are right at my face level. Or I do it while they are sitting on their little potties. That sounds gross, but they plant their feet and stay still well there, so it works well. Mostly I only do it when they ask specifically for it because if they want their toes colorful they will sit there and concentrate on what's happening, but the first couple times when I thought it would be cute and they didn't care, they were wiggly and nervous about what I was doing.

We started with Piggy Paint at about 2 and she had a hard time sitting still for it. Now that she is 3 she asks to have her nails painted and we use real nail polish so it lasts longer. I was just thinking last night while painting her nails that it's amazing how she seems to never be still but can sit perfectly still to have her nails painted!

My mom & I did try to take her for a mani/pedi a couple months ago though and she was not into it! My mom just grabbed a bottle of polish and painted LO's nails on her lap while we got ours done :silly:

@mrskansas: I would just use coloured polish and maybe do a few at a time! Start with the big toes and if she gets too wiggly try a few more the next night.

@Mrs D: I've thought about trying it when she's in her high chair eating but she is always kicking her legs! Tonight I'm going to put on her favorite show and use clear polish for a trial run. Maybe she'll surprise me and not freak out :silly:

I do it myself! Someone he recommended Piggy Polish - so I use that! Early on I would do it while she was strapped in her high chair (18 mos or so) now I just tell her to sit still (3.5 years).

My daughter will be 2 in April and I really want to polish her toenails, for no reason other than it would be cute. She doesn't sit still very long though, and trimming her nails is still a struggle.

How old was your daughter when she was patient enough for nail polish? Did you do it yourself or take her with you when you got a manicure/pedicure?
