The Crossfit community is currently doing a Whole Life Challenge which is sort of like baby stepping into paleo. I chose the beginner level which still lets me have brown rice, quinoa and some other whole grains but cuts out the bad stuff (white rice, potatoes, pasta). The amazing thing is if you read labels, you start learning that virtually all of the foods in the center of the grocery store are processed in some way and how much better you feel when you just cut that stuff out and stick with real food (and wine of course) :)

@spinningry: I 100% agree with @mrsjyw: . It is focusing on what you *can* eat. Also, cheat where you need to, but cheat wisely, like a potatoe or instead of cheating with rice, just cheat with Quinua (it's gluten free).
The other day, we made spaghetti squash :) mmmm, better than spaghetti with pasta.
We also grill veggies and steaks A LOT.
I am not currently paleo eating but I did for awhile and I was fit and energetic!

@spinningry: Sounds very similar to us! When I first tried it I was making 'Paleo' dishes and my husband didn't want to eat it. But if I just make some meat and veggies, which is still paleo but I don't call it a 'paleo' meal he will eat it lol. So I learned that the hard way! I wish you luck :)

@AMOHROR : That is the point I am at now. Changed to white to wheat bread, white to wheat pasta, white to brown rice, flour tortillas to whole grain. My husband is horrible when it comes to eating healthily as well. I have cut back buying and making anything processed a ton in the last four or five months.

I tried it for 2-3 weeks. It wasn't so bad but was definitely a change. I had a hard time with it because my husband refused so it got expensive because I was trying to buy two sets of groceries! I decided to gradually make my family's diet healthier. We switched from white bread to Dave's Killer Bread, (Amazing!) and we are really cutting down on the processed foods. (my husband is still eating his damn lucky charms though lol) I would like to do it but I feel it's too difficult for just me! Hopefully we will keep progressing towards that way of eating though :)

Edit: I did notice I was feeling MUCH better while doing it though and less hungry :)

Just start out at whatever pace feels right. Grains were basically a staple in our house. Everything we ate had some kind of grain in it, but slowly we took out one or two and replaced it with more veggies. Also no need to be perfect. If you want to have rice or pasta one night feel free, the only down side is once your body starts behaving well without that stuff it realy pays you back when you eat it, so make sure it's worth it

I"m totally the other way...I could give up grains but could NOT give up dairy--I eat tons of yogurt and cheese (which is maybe why I need to give it up, lol).

It's definitely an adjustment the first couple of weeks. But, I started out slow, cutting out processed foods first, then pasta/bread, and rice.

Instead of focusing on what I couldn't eat, I focused on what I COULD eat and made my meals exciting around that. We do a lot of protein+veggie side dinners in our house so it was easy to swap out the rice/pasta/bread for lettuce wraps! :)

I'm not paleo-ing currently, but am amping myself up to do it again... I had so much more energy and feel so sluggish these days. Need this carb bloat gone!

Also, I followed the 85/15 Paleo rule and allowed "cheats" like a Sbux Latte here and there, or eating potatoes or hummus, etc. The veggies that aren't UNhealthy, but are not paleo!

I could do without dairy, the only dairy I really have now is greek yogurt. But how do ya'll go without grains? I'd like to try a paleo diet but the whole grainless idea blows my mind..

Give me your paleo wisdom!
