@Mrs. Jump Rope: FWIW my sister was in food service sales (Sysco brands) for 3 years and I flipped at the idea of not having Feta for 9 months. She said to always inquire to be extra sure but basically anything sold in mass here in the US is pasteurized even the soft cheeses...so they are A-okay! Now if you went to a local or specialty restaurant that may specialize in imported cheese they could have some unpasteurized product but the mainstream locations are probably fine!

@mediagirl: NOMMMM cheddar bay biscuits AND caesar salad, perfect meal! They also have great potato soup.

The (probable) caesar salad mishaps combined with the # of times first tri I accidentally ate brownie batter... pretty sure we now know why baby has hobbit feet! HAHA!

@kjpugs: I know. I was OBSESSED with Caesar salad when I was pregnant for some reason. Everywhere I went, people looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about raw eggs. A lot of times you have to have them double check because the waiter will be all, "Well, I don't think so?" Um, I need you to make sure, thanks.

If you go to Red Lobster, theirs is safe. :)

@mediagirl: WAHHHHHHHH!? My OB AND chef hubby said places like that should be fine, which I agreed with in my mind, probably bc they do (or used to) have them bottled- they can't bottle raw eggs right? That's not shelf stable? Ugh. Well now I'm asking everywhere I go because I literally eat caesar salads 4+ times a week (although mostly at home because I'm cheap, luckily!)

I think I went to Panera every workday for lunch for about three weeks during the first trimester, and sometimes I'd go for breakfast AND lunch.
(DH was like "whoa nelly, credit card charges at Panera...")
I did a lot of soups and pasta- baked potato soup was pretty much my favorite "I'm nauseated and everything makes me want to barf" food).

@kjpugs: the manager at Panera told me their Caesar dressing was made with raw eggs. I found out after I ate it (natch) and then complained. They gave me a $25 GC because of their error.

@rahlyrah: @Rainbow Sprinkles: @PrincessBaby: I've eaten tons of deli meat! I ate my fav Jimmy Johns sandwich and then felt guilty and confessed to my OB, and she said she didn't care as long as I didn't get sprouts on it. Since then I've had a million...I will probably give birth to a Beach Club with extra avocado :)

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I really love cheese so I wasn't about to give it up if I didn't have to, and everything I've read says unpasteurized cheese is the only problem. So I eat any pasteurized cheese, soft or not. My midwives are pretty laid back anyway.

@78h2o: I'll be damned. I don't remember being told that or even bothering to look that up. My list of unsafe foods said feta and by god, I took it as the bible. I was very strict throughout my entire pregnancy!!

I'll be asking more questions this time around!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: My understanding is that the risk is very, very, small as long as the cheese is pasteurized. Some OB/REs are probably more conservative than others... but I'm pretty sure the CDC says pasteurized feta is ok for pregnant women. I have no idea if this is a recent change, but it seems like maybe not, according to this WebMD article from 2003: http://www.webmd.com/baby/news/20031105/pasteurized-soft-cheese-ok-in-pregnancy

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I had a Subway addiction (club on wheat with extra pickles- omg. Died for it!) in my first tri and my OB got me all freaked out about listeria when I told her and I got sick one day (I never had m/s) and became convinced I had listeria. I went to the dr and asked to be tested for it and was basically there for like 2 hours bc no one there had EVER tested anyone for listeria do they didnt know HOW or where to send it out to! I saw a very busy 6 doc OB practice in the middle of a major city. That told me that listeria and all of the FearMongery associated with it is just part of the pregnancy Sainthood that we're expected to partake in when we get KU:)

We are starting a cycle very soon so I'm interested to see what meds and foods are on the unsafe list this time around! I'm sure it changes very frequently!

I think the panini pressing is plenty of hear, personally. As long as it melts the cheese, I don't worry about it. And I'm someone who actually has stayed away from cold deli meat for my pregnancy, even though I know it's probably ridiculous.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Their cheeses are all pasteurized so you could have had the feta too! My sister actually asked for their ingredient book to check at one point. Generally, only really nice restaurants are going to have unpasteurized cheese so I don't even bother asking unless I'm someplace fancy.

CAESAR SALAD. It's my absolute favorite this pregnancy. As long as the dressing isn't made with raw eggs and not cooked (places like Paneras are ok!) then it's ok to eat. I just had one right now. Can't get enough!
