so i wanted to update with the pants i got for LO for others in the same situation. Everyone who said skinny jeans from Old Navy - thank you! they fit perfect and even the size 18-24 came with the button adjustment which makes them more perfect. I also ordered a couple of pairs of jogging pants from there and they also fit perfect. Maybe it is just Gap that make their clothes too big for my skinny boy! Old Navy seems to be the way to go for us now :) (sucks because i can walk to a Gap where i live, but Old Navy is out of the way - but cheaper!).

@Jess1483: that would be awesome because we have so many pants now that don't fit. so as much as i will stick to skinny stuff in the future, i don't want his current jogging and track pants to go to waste. he will outgrow them in length before he is fat enough for them to stay up around his bum, LOL. I am going to look into this on amazon.ca

eta. the cons of living in Canada is definitely online shopping! they have the on amazon.ca, but for $35 and not prime! I will have to go in person to the same store travelgirl1 went.

@californiadreams: It looks like the dapper snappers have add-on clips for pants with no belt loops. I think we're going to invest.

I have one pair with an adjustable waist and it doesn seem to make that much of a difference. I think my mom is just going to have to take all the waists in. Dylan is 20lbs and 2years old. He wears 6 month shorts...

@californiadreams: i just bought 2 pairs of the straight leg cords they have Hidden button cinching in 18-24 from old navy. Also the skinny fashion Khakis for baby from old navy fit my skinny minny perfectly (he's 33 inches and 25 lbs at 28 months).

i went on old navy online and for many of the pants i found, it says it has an elasticized waist for up to 18-24m, then for the toddler sizes it has the adjustable waist. so it might be harder to find the adjustable waist than i hoped, but let's see how these skinny jeans fit.

Adjustable waist pants - old navy has several pairs this season including cords and skinny khakis. Gap jeans are usually adjustable just have to check. My 28 month old has the same problem.

We have the exact same problem but for girls. We picked up something at Once Upon A Child the other week called a Dapper Snapper, which slots through the belt loops of trousers to tighten them up. We love it on A so far! http://www.dappersnappers.com

thanks. i have seen the adjustable waist a couple of times, but not anything i wanted to buy. i will look more carefully for it! hope that works :)

i was even looking in the girls section just because i know they sometimes make them tighter for girls, but couldn't find anything that wasn't super girly or actual tights. the girls jogging pants were the same fit as boys.

My 23 month old tall skinny boy is wearing gap pull on jeans in 18-24. They're big in the waist but skinny leg so they stay on.

Osh kosh also has pants with adjustable waist in smaller sizes--18 m or 24 m might work!

Ugh! We're in the same position. My almost-23 month old can fit (length-wise) 18 month pants, but they fall right off him (even in cloth diapers). And the 12-month pants are 3-4 full inches too short. Sigh.

I'll try Old Navy.

If you look very carefully, you can find pants with a button adjustment. These help immensely. I found a few at Children's Place. Otherwise I haven't been very successful with this. We have a very small little boy and at 3 he is in underwear and that makes things even harder.

I am having a difficult time finding pants that fit my skinny almost-23 month old boy. Summer was not an issue as i had him in size 6-12 months and he wore shorts all summer (so the length didn't matter). Now I find even 12-18 month size pants are not long enough,, but all the size 18-24 months are too big in the waist/bum and fall down! If i roll down the waist, then they are too short and sometimes still fall down! I have mostly been looking at old navy and gap

Any suggestions on specific styles/brands for skinny boys??
