I'm all about being green, but I'm also all about being crafty and I just cant give up my paper invites yet. I think they're pretty and they set the tone for the party.

Honestly, id be too lazy to plant the card but I do recycle all of my invites, thank you cards, etc.

I'm a stationer, so I'd like to think that not sending invitations would make my job obsolete! :)

I'm not doing paper invites for my son's 1st birthday- the money I would have spent on them is better re-allocated to food & booze.

@Msinformation-Most of my family aren't computer savvy. /:
I think what makes me feel guilty is that no one really cares about paper invites like I do. Even for our wedding people were surprised we gave actual invites and were even more surprised to get written thank you cards. My circle of friends and family are very close and word of mouth is enough but I LOVE making them and they're so cute! Ugh, I guess I could make just one for her scrapbook /: haha :)

I really just wondered if I was alone in the guilt, all this enviornment talk makes me sad I can't do more to help.

I love paper invites and keep all the ones I receive, but I think I'm in the minority. I like to use Paperless Post for invites - have you tried them before? The designs are beautiful and like Evite, the site tracks RSVPs for you.

that's what I was afraid of. I don't even think I would do it...as much as I would want to and like the idea I would probably forget and throw it out too /:

I love these. I don't know if anyone would plant them either. I would have liked to do something from my wedding with them.

I like doing e-vites to avoid wasting paper. Sometimes there's a lot of backlash and people think it's too informal. If your friends/family aren't offended by an e-vite, I would go that route. Otherwise, I love the idea!

I don't know that most people would plant this paper...but I love the idea.

I really wanted to do paper invites, but we instead decided to e-mail them. Because it's a jpeg those family members who want to print it out can easily upload it to a photo sharing website and print it.

We decided not to send out paper invitations to her birthday just because the guest list is super small (immediate family and very close friends) and I'd rather put that money into decor or gifts or food at this point.

I think most people would still throw it away with the plantable paper. I probably would, because I just don't have anywhere to plant.

But I don't think invitations are that wasteful. You could do postcards or self mailers to save the extra envelope paper waste. But I think if you have a cute photo on it or something, some people will save it, and the rest will recycle. If it's just something generic where you hand write the date and time, you could probably just do an email if you want to save the paper.

Okay, I am ten months away and already thinking of babies first birthday, but what really brought this on was valentine's day...

Are paper invites/cards/ scrapbooking a waste of paper?

With all this cloth diapering and thinking of the environment, it makes me almost guilty to make "unnecessary" paper products. What do you guys think? I was thinking of maybe investing in this:

http://www.botanicalpaperworks.com/how_plantable_paper_works

But am not sure if anyone would actually plant them, or just end up throwing them away as well...
