CONGRATS!!!! And yes i had those same freak outs (and sadly still occasionally do when I think about the fact I will be raising a child and the responsibility that comes with that!) It's completely normal to be scared, but it's a wonderful experience. IT does get easier after you start hearing the heartbeat, seeing U/S, having tests reassure you you are mostly over the hump!

Yeah, I thought "until I hear the heartbeat." Then it was "until the first trimester is over." Now I'm pretty sure it'll be "until he gets married" or "until she's had her first baby." Or maybe it'll be "until I have late-stage Alzheimer's." I know my mom is STILL super-concerned about me. Her mom still goes to help my mom with yard work. So yeah, totally normal.

Thanks everybody! That helps. Right now, I've been catching myself, and touching my stomach, and taking a deep breath and thinking, "This worrying is no good for baby," and then kinda talking to the little bean :) Funny enough, I find it takes my mind off of things to focus on him/her rather than all the things that could go wrong.

Maybe I'll try some prenatal yoga once I get further along. It also helps that I've told a couple of people.

Congrats on your BFP! I think that it is pretty common to be completely thrilled and completely freaked out at the same time, especially for the first few weeks that you know! I know I was! As time went on, I started to just chill out more naturally.

I understand what you're saying. I'm in my 8th week and I've spent most of the time so far worrying. I try to remind myself that other women have done this very successfully and if they can, I can too. My mom did it at age 19 (unplanned teen pregnancy) and she didn't know anything at all! And me and my bro turned out fine. But I think I'll likely worry for the next 7 months! I do meditation and try not become totally consumed by everything pregnancy (which is difficult). I also decided to tell my mom early on (she's the only one other than DH who knows) and she's helped a bit at trying to calm my fears and worries.

As pp have said, think about what things might make you feel better and give them a try. A long walk, telling someone, talking to a doctor, educating yourself more...It'll be ok.

It's definitely scary to think that I'm responsible for this little life inside me, but honestly, on a day to day level, I usually forget that I'm pregnant! There are reminders of course--doctor's appointments, not being able to go out to my fave sushi places, etc...but I find that living my life as normally as possible has helped keep me calm, versus constantly thinking about what I'm supposed to be doing/not supposed to be doing. Women have been having babies for thousands of years, and most of them have turned out just fine.

Pregnancy can be a scary thing(it was for me) because you have no control(really) as to what is going on in there. I was one of those women, that the more i read the more neurotic i got. I couldn't read an article, book or anything without thinking the worst, so I stopped. I didnt even take any classes because I figured I'd just freak out about something(I went in bind as the doctor said). If something really worried me i would just ask me i would ask my doctor before reading about it. You'll find what works beat for you to calm yourself down...but know you aren't the only one that has felt like that.

Firstly, congrats on your BFP!!

secondly - yes, it's totally normal!! I always thought that once I got to the next "checkpoint" I would feel better and stop worrying. "Once I hit 12 weeks, I won't worry anymore."
But then it was, "Once I get my anatomy scan at 20 weeks, then it will all be okay."
And the cycle continued with each and every thing. I read into each pregnancy symptom SO much! It's so hard, I know. But like Mrsbells said, stress isn't good for the baby. Try preparing yourself. I found comfort in researching and educating myself on TONS of different things, baby gear, parenting, sleeping etc. I read so many books, articles, blogs etc during my pregnancy and it helped me relax and make informed decisions. I know some people get more nervous with the more they know, but that wasn't the case for me. I liked knowing that I had all the information before making decisions. I did this when it came to my prenatal care too. I actually turned down several of the traditional tests they offer, like the NT scan and the glucose test, because I learned about it and made an informed decision that I didn't feel it was right or necessary for me to take it.

I hope you learn to find your niche to just revel in the miraculous process of being pregnant!!

Pregnancy and motherhood are a big deal and its normal to feel worried or anxious about it. Just try not to stress yourself out too much since stress isnt good for the baby. For me doing lots of researching and reading about the stage of pregnancy that I was going through helped ease my anxiety

Let me just say first that our little bean was 100% planned and I am so thrilled to be carrying it. Especially now, when I'm only 4 weeks and it's still a super secret and every twinge I have is private, it's so freaking cool that I have this little poppyseed growing inside of me.

But I am also scared senseless! Last night I was sobbing telling my husband that I'm so scared I'm going to do the wrong thing, that it's such a huge responsibility having this little human growing inside of me, and then I'm going to be responsible for them FOREVER and I just got really overwhelmed. I know that if something were to happen (a miscarriage, etc.) it wouldn't be my fault... but I'm totally frightened of SOMETHING happening. I'm hoping that I'll relax more once we're over the hump, but right now I vacillate between pure elation and total, unbridled terror.

Please tell me this is somewhat common? Any tips for chilling out? Background: This is pretty much what I'm like about everything. I'd really like to calm the eff down so I don't turn our child into a ball of neurosis.
