Like everyone else said, it's totally normal! You are describing exactly what my LO did at that age. At 5 weeks, he still isn't really smiling while awake, so I live for the sleepy smiles!

As PP have said, totally normal. I used to laugh when I saw DD do that because I couldn't believe how well she was sleeping after eating. (Made me a little jealous because I could never sleep that soundly- ha!)

Totally normal! I think I read somewhere that as a baby is drifting off to sleep, and/or once they get into REM sleep, their brain is busy processing the new things they learned that day (which includes facial expressions), so it's pretty common for them to smile etc whilst still sleeping.

Also, I think I remember reading that babies go into REM sleep quite quickly (as opposed to adults who take longer to get there) so the eyes rolling back and twitching is all part of that. I could be getting my info mixed up but I think that's what I read.

Bottom line, what you're describing is perfectly normal so don't fret! :-)

Lol! My baby girl still rolls her eyes back when I feed her and she is almost 4 months old! It doesn't creep me out anymore, I just laugh now. In the beginning I didn't like it though!

Totally normal. Enjoy the sweet milk coma, those days don't last forever. The sleep stuff is normal too. Gas smiles :) Changes in breath are related to the different phases of the sleep cycle.

Nervous new mom here.... My LO is ten days old, and we have had a fair amount of challenges all things feeding related (latching, bad spit up issues thought to be due to a fast letdown/supply, and so on).

Every little thing she does seems to make me worry and have me questioning if it's normal or not. After eating, she gets super lethargic and goes into her milk coma (which I think is totally normal?). She is also impossible to burp because she is so relaxed.

After she is done and is relaxing in my arms and starting to fall asleep, her eyes can start to twitch & roll back and her breathing changes to short, deep breaths. She often smiles during this as well. I think it's just her falling asleep, but find it to be really creepy to watch. Have any of you had LO's that do this?
