Those two forms of punishment seem so incompatible to me. Overall I'm a little disturbed that certain schools administer physical, painful punishment. </p> <p>From what I read it sounds like the school administrators deceived the mother by threatening her with another arrest. Getting suspended from school is different than inexcused absences. Sooooo not okay. I know these laws exist, but I can't believe so many states still have them - why don't they get rid of them already?! And I further can't believe a school would choose to utilize this rule! My mind is blown; how could educators be okay with hitting someone else's child, regardless of "permission"?!<br /> In this specific instance, it sounds like that mother is in a bad place (so many un excused absences, misinformed/misunderstanding the truancy rules) and I'm so disappointed that administrators decided to punish this family instead of try to help them. In my opinion the admins should be fired. They are not doing their job well.
