Update: I saw the dad at pick up today and he was wearing fresh blue booties. He still walked outside with them on after he picked up his baby, but I have a feeling he will throw that pair away later.

@Anagram: agree. It's not something you should have to address. Ask the director to remind him. I don't think it's a huge deal- I've never seen or heard of this. But it's their rule so they should enforce it.

@Anagram: the co-director who I said something to is not young- at least 40 and older than this dad. The daycare teachers look young to me, but all have 2-3 kids, so definitely well into their 20s. They have no problem telling us new rules and reinforcing other rules. Someone may have said something to this dad before and I am 100% okay if the co-director knew that, but didn't share that with me.

How old are the teachers? Are they super young? Because I feel like this is easily solved by one of the teachers saying to the dad, "you know, you can get new booties every time. They are designed for single use, so parents don't track debris into the room where babies are lying on the floor."

Simple.

@babynumber1: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Our daycare used the booties, but if anyone walked in without them, they were immediately asked to go put them on. One time after months and months of me going, I forgot to stop and put them on--the director stopped me in the hall and asked a question and then I just didn't think about it and proceeded into the classroom. One of the teachers immediately said, "Your shoes are on!" and I went back for the booties. I didn't mind, I just apologized profusely and said I didn't realize,

I finally had a chance to talk to DH about this. He's conflicted. On one hand he understands why I am upset because he would be too if he saw it. On the other hand he doesn't want me to fight every battle since LO could attend the school for a few years. He also understands the daycare's possible reluctance to saying something to the other dad because they may not want to piss off another tuition paying parent.

On the infant room doors there is a reminder to wear the booties for a clean and hygienic environment for the babies. The purpose is clearly stated. Unless this dad thinks the booties have some magical cleaning property with every wear he is bending the rules to have something blue on his feet. I have not seen him again since I posted.

I jsut dont understand. Why go through the trouble of saving booties. Why not toss them at the door. Maybe he can't sit down on the bench so he puts them on in the car? I just don't see the point.

That's gross. The thought of my baby crawling all over a surface where someone's outside shoes were - that's a no to me (but we are a no shoes household)

I'd ask the director to say something to that parent.

Gross, that would drive me crazy! Babies literally lick the floor sometimes--would he want his kid licking the bottom of someone's shoe? I would definitely push harder about having someone address the dad if you see it happening again.

I feel like this guy just doesn't understand what the booties are for and that they're disposable. I hate to be sexist, but it kinda seems like a "clueless dad" thing. Like he was told he has to wear booties, so he thinks he has to take 1 pair and put them on every day, over and over? And he does it before he comes in to save time?

He just needs to have someone gently tell him how to use the booties correctly. I feel like this is akin to seeing someone try to wash their hands with lotion--they just don't know what they are doing and need someone to tell them.

Honestly, I'd say nothing. Our daycare didn't have the booties rule, though some did that I toured. I thought it was a bit overkill. So, to me him wearing old booties is the same as wearing shoes - no big deal (to me).

This just one of those things that doesn't make sense to me. Does this guy really have no clue why he is wearing the booties? I would definitely ask DCP to say something to him. Something as simple as " we ask all parents to wear fresh booties each day to ensure a clean environment for the crawling babies " as she/ he hands the dad a new set.

@meadow: he wears them outside and apparently has used the same pair for awhile. He came in after me and I scooted so he could share the bench and when he kept walking into the infant room I looked to see what was on his feet. He's been reusing the same pair and wearing them outside.

@PawPrints: ok. If I see it happen again I will have a more succinct request. I'm hoping the fact I mentioned it was enough of a nudge. We'll see.

Meh I'd have been super annoyed as a FTM of a small infant, but maybe Dad was having a terrible AM and simply forgot something in the car. I certainly forgot to take my shoes off from time to time. I wouldn't tattle because I'd probably violate by accident the next day!

When LO first started daycare the rule was to remove shoes or wear booties over your shoes before entering the infant rooms. Socks and bare feet were acceptable. Now, you must wear booties over bare feet, socks or shoes. I get it, it's more hygienic. It's also very inconvenient and as much as I would love to just slip off my shoes and go that isn't the set up anymore. Today, I saw one of the infant parents walk in to the DCP wearing well-worn booties and go straight to the infant room. The booties are blue and this dad's bottom were brown and had debris stuck to it. I said something to one of the co-directors and she shook her head because she noticed him pushing the rule too.

Now what? What have you all done in similar situations?
