there were signup lists for parent teacher conferences in the infant room, and i never signed up for anything. i didn't take it as mandatory.

If it was me, I'd tell them they need to conform to my schedule. I pay for daycare because I work during the day. There's no way I'd take time off for a parent teacher conference for daycare.

@Smurfette: I would just tell them it's a bad time to take off work, and you'll have to do the take-home and informal eval. I work in a public school (older kids, but still) and we have 3 "parent-teacher conference days". Two are during the day and one is at night. We try to get as many parents as we can during the day (the ones with a SAHP or flexible schedules), but the ones who can't, we put them at night.

They should understand, even if they don't seem into it.

We have ours the first week in October, but it's at night. The fact that it's during the day would annoy me. The reason you have your child in day care is because you WORK.

We have them twice a year too but they were optional in the toddler room. Now that LO is older (33 months) I am looking forward to it as I don't get as much detailed info about what she is doing day to day. I do work fairly close by and have a flexible schedule so it hasn't been an issue to fit it in. Ours are during nap time too. I wish they had them in the early evening!

We have them every 6 months or so, starting when LO was an infant. The first one I was soooooo nervous about beforehand; it felt like being called into the principal's office! haha, but of course, it was very low-key and went fine.

Ours are always during the day too; usually early morning at like 8:30, or later afternoon around 4:30 so I don't have to take a big chunk of time out of my day.

They go over a big checklist of all sorts of milestones and things; emotional, physical, gross and fine motor skills, language, etc.

@tinyperson: I think that is why I am annoyed, they know the parents work, that is why they are in day care. I work 35-40 mins away, I can't just pop in for 30 mins.

@Adira: between 9-3.
@Mamaof2: DH asked to move it to Monday when he will be home (works from home when he is home) but they wouldn't do it. Said they can send it home and then we can go over ourselves and then have an informal meeting. But he got the feeling they didn't really want to do that.

@tinyperson: I agree! I actually really like them. My son is a bit older though (3.5), so it's nice to hear how things are going at school. The last one I went to only lasted 15 minutes though

yep we have them every 6 months.

I talk to the teachers everyday though so I usually skip them unless the teacher requests that I actually come in. I figure if it was a pressing issue they would tell me right away and not wait for a conference time to roll around

yup, but I liked it - they went through developmental milestones and what she could do and what activities they did together to work on these milestones. Also let us know how she was with the other kids and how she had changed/grown since starting with the daycare. It was nice to get a little concentrated one on one time with the main teacher instead of the rushed pickup/dropoff conversations.
