He's always supervised but he will learn more by doing. I don't let him fall unassisted from the couch but he runs into things and climbs up and down and we let him slip a little before helping. So far no broken anythings and he can climb all over a play structure and on the couches. I just want to read about how to talk to her instead of just saying no. And how to teach her that climbing on and falling off the couch will hurt..things like that. My understanding (from reading and from discussions with my doctor), is that most children are developmentally unready for "active discipline" until the age of 2.
