For me, it's how tough it is to get them to sleep or at least my model. Also, I didn't realize how important it was to establish a morning routine to get everyone out of the house on time to work and daycare. In terms of friends and family, I didn't realize how helpful my brother and SIL would be. They've enlightened us on a lot of things as we're getting used to being parents. So helpful.

@MaisyMay: @Running Elley: I completely agree with both of you!
I thought my MIL would be giving me tons of unsolicited advice, like she did during my preganancy but shes kept quiet!
And I knew I would have someone depending on me, but I cant even just zip to the store, or grab coffee with the girls without having to pack him up or make sure SO can stay home.

I was really surprised at how helpful my DH was. I always knew he'd be a great dad but I always pictured him being hands on with the kids once they were older (Toddler years). I didn't realize how involved he would be when they were babies! He's an expert diaper changer, feeder, burper, and bather. I was surprised how good he was with infant babies.

@Running Elley: I know what you mean about getting out of the house! It's like, okay, she's fed and changed, now I need to pump. She's dressed, I'm dressed, oh, need to feed again in half an hour...I figure getting out of the house 2-3 days a week is good enough.

How I'm with someone 24 hours a day. We cosleep so he is always right there, not that I'm complaining BC I love being with him. But I think if it was anyone else I would get sick of them!

I didn't fully realize how constant it is. Little things like getting out of the house are now monumental accomplishments because of this little person who is completely dependent on me. It definitely has taken some adjusting to get used to/plan for!

What is something that has surprised you about parenting/having kids?

For me, I thought that I'd be getting a lot of "you should do this" and "why are you doing that?" from my MIL. We have a good relationship, but she's definitely got her own opinions. Instead, she's been great! I know it's only been a few weeks, but she's been absolutely wonderful.
