@Chillybear: Spoons! This concept really helped me to understand what my husband was going through when his arthritis was bad.

@spaniellove: I'm sending you all my love.... not that it will make the slightest difference to you  . I'm just so sorry to hear how hard things are right now. FWIW, I don't have a chronic health condition and yet I've found parenting so very hard. Its relentless. Some days I was (am) so tired I didn't know where I would find the energy to keep going and yet LO continued to need me.... Could/does your DH take much of the responsibility?

@Chillybear: Yes, spoons! I wish more people understood that concept because most in the autism community do, and there are a lot of times when I'd like to just say I've run out of spoons but I have to use a glass of water as an example instead and it's not the same.

@jedeve: No one I can call for help. It's led to some bad moments because I've been conditioned to think my only way out of the pain would be if something bad were to happen to LO, just to get a few minutes of relief.

@spaniellove: that sounds so tough! Do you have back up help? I had a migraine with aura the other day and could barely see. Luckily the boys were sleeping and I got my vision back in half an hour, but I was so worried they would need something!

I have interstitial cystitis, a bladder condition. It sounds minor, but it's really painful. Luckily it's been in remission for over two years, so I haven't really had to balance bad days and parenting. But I feel it creepy back in. I've had a few flares recently. You aren't supposed to drink coffee with it, and as silly as it sounds - I have no idea how to parent without caffeine.

I have an auto-immune disease that at its worst was debilitating to my hands and skin, i was on immune suppressants and would get other wise minor colds/infections at the drop of hat that would last weeks. As of late its been fairly manageable and i have been off the immune suppressants but i remember reading this article when i was "searching for answers" during a particularly bad flare up and it really resonated with me.

Didn't want to clutter up the original post so putting it here...I have epilepsy and migraines (sometimes hemiplegic) as well as other neuro/sensory issues. It gets to be a challenge caring for LO at times like this past week when first I had a seizure, then a debilitating migraine that painkillers couldn't touch, and then even Zofran couldn't help.

Anyone else trying to balance being a parent and managing your own chronic health issues? It's tough on days when you have to choose what to put first and what sacrifices to make, and when you just don't feel human.
